Avios Refund less than Avios cost??

I paid 10000 avios for a flight back from Valencia (+ 50 pence!) in May

Just phoned and got a refund, but only had 8473 avios back in my account

Is this correct?

Thanks

Are you sure you didn’t have a household account and the refund had not been split?

It’ll be shared around the household account, if you look at the amount taken when you booked it will most likely be the 8473 there or thereabouts

Thanks All, Yes have a household account!

I thought there must be a simple answer, but this never occurred to me :-)

Oh, I guess the answer was not the devaluation of the GBP (and Avios being linked)

??

The value of avios is not linked to the value of the pound (or any other currency)

The reason was as posited earlier and confrmed by the OP that they are part of a household account so the avios were taken pro rata from each acount and then returned from whence they came when the tiket was refunded.

While not linked to the amount of avios returned there has been an avios devaluation though meaning the flight could not be rebooked for 10000 avios. It now seems to cost an additional 1000 avios at the 50p price point for any routes I have looked at. So therefore it would now cost 11000 avios+50p off peak on this route for a one way flight.
