Gas and go. ie: just a pit stop. Passengers stay on plane.

Of particular note, issued boarding passes with different seat numbers for SYD-SIN & SIN-LHR while clearly the aircraft cannot be properly cleaned with the vast majority of pax remaining on board. Obviously social distancing is not possible...in premium & economy anyway...but this still does not seem particularly sensible.

Seems gas and go is acceptable at SIN, curious why prior to the current coronavirus crisis did BA / Changi Airport insist that all passengers disembark “for security reasons”?

Think its because people get on and off in normal times and its a requirement issued by Australia immigration that everyone leaving SIN gets re-screened regardless of port of origin if they leave the aircraft (which they usually do due to cleaning, catering, crew change as well as refuel). I believe under the current arrangement no one leaves the aircraft and it just gets refuelled and off it goes.

I can't imagine given the choice anyone would choose to stay onboard for 24hrs either must be pretty brutal

There are still thousands of passengers a day arriving into LHR, and then getting straight onto the tube with absolutely no checks. Completely bizarre.

I believe there is still a crew change (for obvious reasons)

So do the crew have to remain in some sort of quarantine whilst laying over in SIN?

Would be interested to know how "Deep a clean" the aircraft gets either in SYD or LHR. Just thinking about all of those fingers touching the screen (cant remember if BA has touchscreen!!) or remote controls, toilet doors, seat armrests, overhead bin handles, seatbelt buckles. Mind you, must be the same for every airline.

A friend of ours who's MF Crew did SIN-SYD last week- their hotel was shifted to the [name redacted] and they're confined to their rooms. Essentially spending 9 days without getting any fresh air definitely doesn't sound very fun.

I appreciate that social distancing would impose a huge economic burden on the airlines, but they are surely not filling their aircraft up and expecting people to sit 10 abreast (or whatever the current config) with each row filled for the best part of 24 hours ?? That would be complete insanity, particularly given that - as noted in another post - there are no checks on arrival, and just a polite request not to use public transport, rather than a ban.

Has nobody yet noticed that the most badly affected cities in Europe and the US are all major airline hubs ? A Spanish virologist was making this point about Madrid only yesterday.

There were 13 IAG flights arriving daily from MAD until pretty much the week before last, and long after Madrid had been identified as a top C-19 hotspot. Why is nobody focusing on the need to perform any sort of screening on the arriving pax, or facilitating their transfer to places where they can self-isolate after arrival ? This is insane !!

Because it's pretty much pointless. From an article on the Science Magazine website: https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020...ad-coronavirus

"Just last week, eight passengers who later tested positive for COVID-19 arrived in Shanghai from Italy and passed the airport screeners unnoticed, for example. And even if screeners do find the occasional case, it has almost no impact on the course of an outbreak.

"Ultimately, measures aimed at catching infections in travelers will only delay a local epidemic and not prevent it,” says Ben Cowling, an epidemiologist at the University of Hong Kong. He and others say screening is often instituted to show that a government is taking action, even if the impact is marginal."

That's from over a month ago. At some point, everybody entering the UK will need to go into mandatory 14 day quarantine to stop it getting back in.
