Results of my survey today.

Landside level 0 Boots is open but both M&S and WH Smiths are closed. I think northeastflyer posted that M&S may open on Thursday 27 August.

Travelex - Landside
Level 0 closed
Level 3 behind zone D closed
Level 3 behind zone G (VAT refunds) open
Level 3 behind zone H closed

Travelex - Airside
Opposite Hermes and in front of escalators to transit closed
Near gate A11 closed
Near the Crown Rivers closed
Near GC(N) entrance open
Near Harrods upper floor closed
Between Dixon’s and south security open

Sorry didn't check the one between GF and CCR.

Other Airside
WH Smith’s and pilots bar & kitchen next door both closed
Dixon’s on upper floor closed (lower floor is open)
Rolling Luggage near The Crown Rivers is closed
Giraffe opposite north security is closed
Sunglasses Boutique near A11 is closed
Wagamama is closed
EDIT: Itsu is closed

Also just to note Pret near A2 is open for takeaway and eat in, and less busy than the main one

Other than that everything else seems open

Place to wait landside

Any tips where one can wait outside (landside) in a quiet place away from the hubbub of the Terminal?
As far as I know it’s not possible to just walk from T5 to the nearby reservoirs or surrounding area.

Hi,

How long do you have?
There are the 2 destination walls outside t5 between arrivals and the busstops or maybe the lobby/bar of the Sofitel if it is open

Regards

The risk of catching Covid by going through T5, and getting on a plane, would appear to be small due to the actions taken, except when the queues become silly.

This raises 2 questions for me.................

Presumably, if any Covid outbreaks did take place in Aviation, the media would be on to it quickly and let us all know?. Also, if it is relatively safe, how do the travelling public become aware of the relative safety?

Catch the free bus service inside airport perimeter to the Thistle hotel bath road stop then amble up to the lovely village of Harmondsworth where there are a few pubs a magnificent barn dubbed the "Cathedral of Middlesex" by Sir John Betjeman. Built in 1426 and walk around Saxon lake. Just Google for walking guides an ideas and distances.

Spikes in food factories, abbatoirs, farms and electoral wards have been printed in the media within days if not hours, I don't think aviation is any different. Ryanair had an experience only yesterday and it involved just one person. As for the second question, there are heaps of newspaper articles on the relative safety of aviation, and a few scientific analyses too, though based on limited data. The most recent that I know of is that of Dr. Sandra Ciesek inter alia, of the Goethe University's Institute for Medical Virology in Frankfurt AM, "Assessment of SARS-CoV-2 Transmission on an International Flight and Among a Tourist Group", which was peer reviewed.

Thanks. I am having great trouble convincing SWMBO and children. Where we live, transmission rate is close to zero, but they are still responding to the "Scare" articles, even with masks, and that article reports on a flight without masks!
