London City Airport to close from evening of 25th March until the end of April 2020

https://www.londoncityairport.com/coronavirus

London City Airport temporarily suspends commercial and private flights

Following the Government’s latest instructions in response to the Coronavirus outbreak, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to temporarily suspend all commercial and private flights from the airport.

This will begin in the evening on Wednesday 25 March and is expected to last until the end of April. We will keep this under review.

At this point in this fast-moving and unprecedented situation, we think this is the responsible thing to do for the safety and wellbeing of our staff, passengers and everyone associated with the airport.

During this period, we will continue to follow official guidance and work with the authorities to understand the situation and how best to respond.

We will keep you up to date with relevant information and news, as and when we have it.

I wonder if it will be used to service the huge ITU being constructed at the EXCEL centre. An RAF C139 landed there yesterday and overflew it today

Any tail number to follow? I can see LCY from the balcony - would be great to track it coming in on FR24!

I expect a bit more of this around Europe...especially as places to park aircraft.

There's already been an unusual visitor from the RAF at LCY.

I agree, though in the specific case of LCY it's a rotten parking place for anything other than the regulars who operate there.
More marginal airports like Exeter, Bournemouth, Newquay, Robin Hood, Prestwick, one of the Belfast airports, Norwich, etc, could be or are already being used for parking.

I live about 5 miles away and saw that plane today - happened to be looking out of the window at the right time as it appear from Essex direction. My first port of call was indeed FR24 and it wasn't on there.

OT, but the RAF Voyager A330s do appear on FR24. Although they are quasi civilian aircraft.

Could they be using LCY for bringing in patients from around the UK?

Looks like its going to be used exclusively for RAF and Emergency services, as it is so close to NHS Nightingale - the new Hospital in the Excel building.

Whether they appear on FR24 will depend on the individual a/c tasking. They most certainly do not appear for some of their duties.

Think BACF suspended operations on the 23rd anyway.
