Black cabs at Heathrow T5?

Am hoping to be arriving at T5 on Sunday - are black cabs easily available at moment? If not is there a reliable company to book one from? Thanks in advance for any advice.

No idea on the current situation, but that’s the SERIOUSLY expensive way to go.

Will be at LHR in a few hours so will see if I can see any taxis hovering around. I agree with T8191 though, there are for sure cheaper ways to do it! Wheely is one what I have used a few times and have flat rate from LHR and very nice cars too.

Have a look at Addison Lee - you can reserve in advance and be kept up to date with the current situation should things change and have peace of mind.

Or indeed https://www.yoyocars.co.uk/about/

Based near LHR ... We use them for LGW/LHR connections ... very professional and, so far, 100% reliable. email and SMS communication, including a photo of your driver to assist meet-up!!

I can definitely recommend Wheely. Great service and they have Mercedes E-Class and S-Class available. I think the E-Class is 50£ to West London and 60£ to the City, while the S-Class is 75£ to West and 90£ to Central.

Fixed fares, so no nasty surprises.

Black cab drivers are being sorely hit at the moment by the lack of rides, many have started delivering packages as back up income, so if you can, please do also consider them

Many of them have serious overheads as well. I won't be going near an airport for a while, but i'm sure they'll be ample at the airport.

Thanks for all the replies - price not an issue here. I quite like the idea of the screen between driver and passengers.

Reporting back, the usual long queue of black cabs was there at 19:30 today.

I’d be more worried about who has been in the back of any taxi, than who is the front.

Safe travels.

I agree with all of this.

Also, Black Cabs are safe, reliable and a great option. The divider is also great for stopping germs between the driver and passengers.

That was my thought also. Unless they deep clean the back after every fare, which I doubt, I think the screening yourself from the driver is the least of the worry.

See the following link from Head for Points that has details of a dedicated Covid-19 Black Cab service :-

https://www.headforpoints.com/2020/0...-not-extended/
Noir Taxi, one of the smaller black cab apps in London, has launched its specialist Covid-19 service. Whether this is a smart way of generating business or a bit OTT remains to be seen.

This is how it works. You need to pre-book your ride via the Noir Taxi app, website or by phone. The driver will then arrive 10 minutes early and carry out the following procedures:
  • Open both rear doors to fill the cab with fresh air
  • Anti-bacterially clean all door and grab handles
  • Anti-bacterially clean the payment tray, credit card machine and all other internal surfaces which may be touched
  • Driver anti-bacterially cleans hands and closes taxi doors
  • Driver will wear gloves if you need help carrying bags
You can download the Noir Taxi app from your local app store.
