Thoughts on Interline Exceptions?

I don't usually fly BA, but I'm scheduled to fly EDI > LHR (BA business revenue) then onward to SFO on separate UA business award ticket. I only have a two hour turn at LHR and am hoping BA will interline my bags so I don't have to scramble to recheck /pray for no delays out of EDI.

Any thoughts on whether BA would allow an interline? COVID exception maybe?

I would think near 0%. Even on a BA-BA but separate ticket they wont do it. UA which is not even Oneworld I very much doubt it. Please ask at check in in EDI but be prepared most likely no.

On separate tickets its very unlikely they will check through. The won't even do that BA to BA on separate tickets

I researched this earlier and it seems as though this was pulled from O/W three years ago, with the odd exception.
Basically, opinion was that it allowed people to circumvent the purchase of expensive tickets, so why would airlines allow it.

While on the subject, I would guess a LHR-HAJ-HEL-BKK would have no chance either?
with LHR-HAJ in BA and the rest on AY? I feel silly even asking.

As a separate not can you change the BA ticket to an earlier flight? I don’t know your exact BA ticket fare rules but most of the cash business tickets if its a one way or simple return they do offer free change on the day. So past midnight you would able to select any BA flights from EDI without paying anything if there is space available on that cabin. I’m not sure if it is possible in your case. Also you should able to do it online without calling BA.

if its on a separate ticket then no chance. If its the same ticket all the way through then it should be possible.

Unfortunately, there's only one non-stop UA flight to SFO that day (10:25) and the earliest BA flight (which I'm on) gets me to LHR at 8:30.

Assumming UA closes check in an hour before their flight (best check) you'll have 55 mins (if your BA is on time, more if early and less if late) to deboard, get to baggage claim, wait for your bags (BA not always speedy) and make your way to the UA desks.which remember are in a different terminal at LHR

I'm afraid that IMHO that's just too much of a risk. I'd consider leaving EDI the night before and staying in a hotel

The first GLA flight of the day will give you an additional 30 mins turnaround at LHR
