Price it out of Aberdeen or Inverness (who have an exemption), where the departure taxes don't apply; you can even open-jaw it back into GLA if you want

I think that BAEC collects high surcharges on all AA TATL flights. Historically, BAEC surcharges on EI TATL flights were very low.

They’ve recently raised the YQ component ex-US to ~$650 each way. For biz.

Just to compare TFC exUK vs exUS.

EDI-BOS rtn in J or F
Air Passenger Duty - United Kingdom £176.00
Passenger Service Charge - United Kingdom £72.21
Animal & Plant Health User Fee (Aphis) - USA £3.10

Customs User Fee - USA £4.50
International Transportation Tax - USA £14.60
International Transportation Tax - USA £14.60
Passenger Civil Aviation Security Service Fee - USA £4.30
Passenger Facility Charge £3.50
Carrier imposed charge £400.00
----------------------------------------------------------
Total charges per person £698.21

BOS-EDI rtn in J or F
Animal & Plant Health User Fee (Aphis) - USA $3.96
Immigration User Fee - USA $7.00
Customs User Fee - USA $5.89
International Transportation Tax - USA $18.90
International Transportation Tax - USA $18.90
Passenger Civil Aviation Security Service Fee - USA $5.60
Air Passenger Duty - United Kingdom $228.31
Passenger Service Charge - United Kingdom $93.67
Passenger Facility Charge $4.50
Carrier imposed charge $1,300.00
----------------------------------------------------------
Total charges per person $1,686.73 (about £1,308)

So exUS is just under twice as much as exUK, and that is because the carrier surcharge is $1,300 compared to £400.

As golfmad said above, welcome to our world. The carrier imposed charges on ex-US bookings are just crazy. In fact, fares from the US to the UK are crazy. I am booking most of my trips ex-UK to benefit from more competitive pricing.

I should really start doing this. But it takes a little more planning.
