Storm Ciara, the third and most significant UK storm of the winter, is due to land on the night of Saturday 8 February and have an impact on transport provisions on Sunday 9 February. The whole of the UK and Ireland is in scope but the south of the UK may well bear the brunt. Posts 56 gives general advice, post 66 has the customer guideline for shorthaul services, which allows European travel to be be moved to 4 alternative dates. For cancelled services go to post 302 for LHR and post 292 for LGW., post 261 for LCY

Off to Nice on Sunday 10am from lhr.

There are 4 flights a day so at least half will go. Question is which ones! It’s like waiting for Christmas.

It is a BA holiday so I assume if they cancel the flight i have a cancellation right ?? for the trip ? Ba booked hotel and car hire

You are covered multiple times over, if your flight is cancelled then yes various levels of protection kick in. At this stage you can't do anything, except perhaps to ponder at what Plan B could look like.

Excellent, flying AMS-LHR , right through the storm, so just hope they cancel in time if needed.

Mrs GG is worried.....

On points, so what happens if our flight to Miami is cancelled on Sunday?

No alternatives are showing to Miami before Sunday apart from one AA flight Saturday early afternoon.

Might be a Monday flight - assume BA pay for accommodation or do they?

Yes, they would pay for overnight accommodation, they haven't got a choice about that. The MIA services will be towards the top of the list of flights they will want to preserve, and they are both 747s, which is what I would want in stormy weather. I wouldn't read anything into existing F availability, people on connections would struggle to make the service. There is the AA service as you noted, and if Virgin is OK, their UC isn't anything like full. The one thing to do is if they introduce a Customer Guidelines tomorrow morning (say) could you make the Saturday service instead? Would accepting CW be Ok in the circumstances? These are the things worth doing now, the rest you can't change at the moment so there's no point worrying about them.

New Update to Customer Guidelines - just released so if you call the Contact Centre mention it's only just come out.

However it is for SHORTHAUL only if your flight is currently shown as operating.

If you are due to travel on 9 January you can now rebook to travel on Saturday 8th, alternatively 11, 12 or 13 February. Note! not 10 February, so clearly BA are expecting at least knock-on effects.

This is for BA 125 issued tickets, sold on or before 7 February, no rerouting allowed, no refunds, but Avios / redemptions are in scope. Think carefully, you are only allowed one change at least in theory.

Try to do this online, it may be that they have unblocked your ticket to allow changes, there may be an intermediate screen suggesting there is a fee, but the last screen should make it clear it is a free change. If not, then call up.

Further to my previous reply, now there are shorthaul guidelines, I think you are ok to call YouFirst to see if they can move you to other services if you are really concerned about this and ok to be flexible about options. They may say they can't help yet.

Just typical this would happen when I have a b2b at CPH on Sunday before heading to SYD.

if, the LHR CPH is canx and obviously the corresponding CPH LHR, could I just start in LHR on the BA15?

Yes. They may even do it now if you ask very nicely, or move the CPH travel to purely Saturday, but if it's cancelled I'd expect no problem. And obviously that's the benefit of a true back to back.

Tried you first. They mentioned the 11am meeting and to call back tomorrow afternoon, which is a bit late haha

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but is this across all SH routes?

We are doing Gatwick-Malaga tomorrow and back on Sunday evening. Normally a bit of disruption wouldn't matter but my husband is working on Monday and unfortunately his is the sort of job where he can't just not turn up without significant knock-on consequences (on the other hand no one would notice much if I didn't make it in to the office!).

At the moment there seems to be lots of space on the last flight back tomorrow so we could still do a day trip - coming back later in the week isn't an option. We either do the day trip or cancel but it seems like we'd lose out completely if we did this.

BA have 4 flights from Málaga on Sunday, 2 to LGW, 1 to LCY and the other to LHR. Now usually LGW are reasonably good at maintaining services, LCY less so. I doubt all 4 services would go, but I guess you could look at other airlines instead, as well as Iberia via MAD. So if you are able to stay on top of this thread and you can be flexible I think you would be OK. But to answer the question the Guideline above does indeed allow you to rebook the Sunday flight to Saturday if you wish. It may work online, but if not you may want to call (if necessary using Skype and the USA telephone number).

To AMS (specfically), expect massive delays and ground holds because Schiphol is chronically incapable of handling wind over about 15kt no matter the orientation to the runway. Use the toilet before boarding, bring hydration and entertainment with you, and check for an unusual difference between predicted arrival and predicted departure (longer than the usual flight time + time difference).

Schiphol is a most unreliable airport.
