Fleet upgrade A220-100 or E190-E2?
Having made comparisons between the two contenders the A220-100 wins convincingly.
A220-100 [Clean sheet design]
1) Can carry more pax
2) More range (including capability to fly direct to JFK - great Buisness Jet option)
3) 3+2 Seat configuration/good seat pitch
4) Bigger windows
5) Although costs more BA would undoubtedly negotiate deals at cost price
6) Passenger experience is better (according to the public themselves) and would fly A220
over E2
7) Fly-by-wire, compliments BA Mainline Short-Haul fleet
8) TOLD performance for the 1500m runway is outstanding
9) Can open up new routes outside existing fleets range
E190-E2 (New wing, lifted pylons for bigger engines, raised landing gear - not clean sheet)
1) $25m cheaper!
2) Upgraded Avionics Suite
3) 2+2 Seat configuration/seat pitch questionable?
4) 4 feet longer fuselage
5) Minimal flight-crew training required as already operating E-Jets
6) Cabin crew already familiar with E-Jet
7) Engineering teams require minimal differences training
8) Easier to phase out existing fleet
9) TOLD performance a little better
Any other suggestions?

Just to welcome you iNebula to Flyertalk and welcome you also to the BA Forum. It's good to see you here, we like to be welcoming to newcomers.
I cannot add very much to the question, but if one aircraft is cheaper than the other - end to end - I suspect that will be the winner, knowing BA.

E290 can be parked on 18 stands at LCY,
A220 can be parked on 4 stands at LCY.
If BA would like the A220, they simply cannot use it at the airport, so it will be many years until the LCY apron and terminal extension to the east is big enough to allow them to have it.

From what I read in your post it could replace the a318 for BA1 / 2 (with a very angled herringbone seat for example), but otherwise it's probably a non starter because it's that much more expensive... Whatever BA can negotiate with Airbus, they can negotiate with Embraer.

1) do the check and continue functioning for a bit longer
2) dismiss it, close (aka "suspend" in BA parlance) the route and issue a press release to say that customer can enjoy Club Suite and the 6 gazillion pound investment, new lounge and blah blah blah
3) buy a new fleet (the A220) for exactly one plane, perhaps more once LCY gets larger and BA renegotiates its deal with BALPA.

Worth remembering that any brand new jets for CityFlyer will be part of a bigger purchase for IAG, which does swing things in the Airbus’s favour somewhat. Conversely, the E2 hasn’t exactly been a sales hit so could probably be delivered sooner and likely to be with a healthy discount.

All six of the 170s, and 190s G-LCYJ to G-LCYR, plus G-LCYU are listed as owned.

By that time we’ll have threads complaining about seat pitch and galley plans on the SpaceX rockets BA will use to fly us to the Moon and beyond. “What’s the point in SpaceTravellerPlus?”, we’ll say.

that would seem pretty conclusive! Shame as the A220 is a very good flying experience (save the over loud AC).
