BA have cancelled all flights to PKX (Beijing/Peking) and PVG (Shanghai Pu Dong) "until 19 April 2020".
BA frequency to HKG has been reduced with effect from 13 February 2020 - see below for further details. From HKG, Cathay is running a heavily reduced schedule to mainland destinations until the end of March.
If you are due to fly to PKX, PVG and your flight is cancelled then you have refund, re-route and rebook options. BA can rebook on to several other airlines.
If you are due to fly to Hong Kong until 1st April you have refund and rebook options.
If you are transiting into mainland China you are also covered as above.
If you are transiting internationally (e.g. LHR-HKG-SYD) you are not able to move your flights, unless they are cancelled anyway.
The latest ba.com update was on 21 February 2020 at 1510.

Guys, avoid public space as what you would do in flu season. Stay sanitised, cover mouth and nose. There is zero benefit from the risk of the virus.

Question, I am flying to Shanghai on the 7th and I actually believe that the panic and city shut downs will have stopped by then, however the question is, should the city be quarantined will people be given notice and time to leave? Would BA have prior knowledge and contact customers?
Just trying to think ahead and how to avoid potentially being stuck somewhere for an extended period of time.

This virus is spreading faster than the news is telling you/us, so that it is likely that by the 7th there will be a ban on travel to/from China.
Pandemics like this take from 90 to 120 days plus/minus to burn out once effective quarantine measures are in place. They are not yet in place in China or any where else in the world.
Normalcy bias is still prevailing but give it another 5-7 days and the realities of this illness will forces governments to act more aggressively even though the economic impacts will be enormous.

I'm in Kuala Lumpur currently; was originally supposed to have a week in Shanghai next but the Shanghai event got cancelled due to concerns about the virus. I phoned the gold line about the possibilities of changing my booking for a return to London from KL. The agent told me that BA has no concessions yet developed for China, but that I should phone back in a few days because the situation is under continual discussion and is likely to change. Would really appreciate if they would waive the rebooking/rerouting fees as Cathay Pacific has done.

If HKG closes at some point, almost all the One World traffic to North America (and some to Europe) will grind to a halt, it will be a disaster. Same for all regional traffic.

Just flew BKK to LHR via PEK with Air China. Some observations:
1, all Chinese passengers and Japanese passengers are wearing a mask in BKK Airport.
2, all Air China crew on both flights have masks on full time.
3, almost all passengers (Chinese or not) in PEK Airport wears masks.
I think it is matter of time for all BA crew to wearing masks to fly to PKX and PVG.

I don’t think masks protect you against viruses. They are tiny and very difficult to block.

Great if you're planing a door, though.
Best you can do is wash your hands. All the time. And when you're not in a bathroom - use sanitiser. Just don't get all OCD with it like my mate did as a junior reg and end up almost cleaning your knuckles off.

Just read that one should wear a surgical mask rather than a N95 mask, as the latter are hard to breathe through.

The masks are meant for people who are ill, so that if/when they sneeze or cough it contains the droplets. As no-one yet seems to know whether this virus spreads before symptoms show or not, I think the reason people want everyone to wear masks is so that you don't panic that the person you're close to is ill and about to sneeze. I guess it can also help if you're wearing a mask and someone sneezes on you.
