LHR Runway closed?

According to the Captain on BA341, the flight has diverted to LGW as the runway at LHR is closed...

Looks like last flight in was BA218 from Denver approx 40mins ago - lots of diversions

Although some flights e.g. BE2121 VS138 seem to have come out of the hold, so looks like it could be resolved?

Both are in use now, although I see aircraft landing on both runways at the moment so it may be that there was a short stoppage.

According to an on board announcement from a Captain on one flight it was due to a “security incident”

Further unconfirmed reports suggest an intercept by RAF quick reaction alert in Heathrow airspace.

Would recommend not paying much attention to ‘further unconfirmed reports’.

Are you able to advise why the brief closure?

Appreciate it if you can't say, but just curious.

But Heathrow confirmed arrivals into the airport were temporarily suspended due to a request from the RAF to fly through nearby airspace.

A spokesperson said: “Arrivals were paused briefly this morning due to an RAF request for an operational flight within part of Heathrow’s airspace.

The article linked has as much detail as will ever come out, I guess.

Wasn’t QRA, half of England would have heard it.

You sure it was not BBMF practicing their flyby to celebrate Brexit and Magxit?
