This is awful and hopefully unrelated. But who knows how this will be spun

"Crash" photos show damage similar to that of previous MPADS discharges on civilian aircraft. Once you add the video, it's hard to believe there are any airlines still flying over Iran but flight radar still shows at least 100 of them. Mostly Qatar Airwars and Emirates.

Lets not forget that the American's are capable of tragic errors such as Iran Air Flight 655, which was an A300 taking off from a civilian airport on a scheduled flight and was shot down by a US ship. No survivors.

Best avoid the area in these dangerous times.

BA118 BLR-LHR looks like it’s flying straight over Iran - is this decision being made on a case by case basis then (with reference to previous BA flights diverting or going around)?

It’s in and out of ADSB dead zones but fundamentally is avoiding Iranian airspace

Ah ok, it was showing up as a dotted line which I thought might mean something like that. Thanks for clarifying.

It’s not.

FR24 predicts the path when ADS-B coverage is non existent.

Edit. Posted at the same time as above and cant appear to delete.

Numerous videos & reports of the apparent plane on fire before it crashed. Jordanian media claiming about Iranian source that it was accidentally shot down. If so, a very dangerous escalation. That said, given the location of the crash site, one would again question the validity of any investigation and it’s findings.

RIP to all those innocent victims on board

Will we ever find out?

Iran will say its a technical issue.

Trump will say it was shot down.

I doubt Boeing will be invited to Iran to investigate...

I wouldn't worry about it, it appears BA is taking an abundance of caution in their routings to Dubai as stated upthread...

In other news, it appears bad things come in threes ...

A 4.9 magnitude earthquake struck 10 km south-east of Borazjan, Iran, at 2.20am GMT according to USGS.
Report said the quake hit near a nuclear plant, but added that it was a "natural" event.

Here we go...

KIEV (Reuters) - Engine failure caused the crash of a Ukrainian airliner in Iran, rather than a missile attack or act of terrorism, the Ukrainian embassy to Iran said on Wednesday, citing preliminary information. In a statement, the embassy also said that 168 people had bought tickets for the flight.
