**POSTPONED TILL A LATER DATE**

Hi All

Inspired by others who have hosted do's in Gibraltar , Leeds, London, Phoenix and other far flung locations I have decided with the help of JCM9000 and a few others to set up a do here in my hometown of Glasgow.

Venue

Venue has been confirmed!!

Bar Square in Glasgow Merchant Square
5 Bell St, Glasgow G1 1NU

Venue is a large courtyard style bar with good beer, gin & spirits selection and for those looking for bubbles they also have Moet & Bollinger BUT more importantly all at Glasgow prices :-)

Merchant Square is an excellent central location and an excellent starting point with lots of other food and drink options nearby, the bar itself also has a decent food selection

Venue has been booked and look forward to seeing you all there :-)

Transport

For those flying up there is plenty of flights from LHR, LGW and if you fly the night before LCY also.
Edinburgh airport is also an hour by a very frequent bus service from door to Glasgow City Centre if it helps with availability.
  • There is no train from Glasgow Airport to the city centre however there is a bus every 10 minutes which takes 15 minutes into the city centre at a cost of £14 open return,
  • For those not flying Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen Street are the closest train stations and are quite well served.
  • Airport Taxi is £25 from an airport Taxi Rank
  • Private Hire is £13 from the pickup point at the airport
  • Uber is available
  • Anyone wanting to try something different the Caledonia Sleeper train runs into Glasgow from London Euston Friday into Saturday and home Sunday into Monday.

There are various Hilton Hotels (Hilton Glasgow, Hilton Grosvenor, Hilton Garden Inn, Hilton Hampton Inn, Hilton DoubleTree). Marriott, Moxy, Radisson Blu, Raddison Red, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn etc to cater for all tastes and loyalty programs.

I'm on BA1488 too, and can also guest one into the CCR fora pre-do espresso martini. The party starts early.

As my employer has now banned all non essential travel until the end of April, unless something changes I now won’t be in Glasgow on the Friday. Accordingly myself and Smallclanger are now “maybe” for attending.

Things are changing day by day and week by week. If I had to guess, I would imagine we'll still be in voluntary lockdown on 25th April. But it's not like you have other plans, so might as well leave it for now.

A large amount of food and drink venues in Glasgow are initially closing for 8 weeks, so it doesn't look promising.

There'll be riots in Glasgow if the pubs are closed!

I’ve cancelled as all work travel is banned until the end of April.

Indeed - some of the small independent operators are battling on, but many are closing, particularly the bigger venues and ones offering food. I am sure there will be many drinking dens that will remain open if they can!

To be fair the current UK restrictions are in place for 3 weeks and will be reviewed at the end of that period - so they could change after 13 April. The GLA Do is beyond that date, but I doubt things will be relaxed sufficiently by 25 April that it would be possible for the Do to take place. So I think it is safe to assume the Do is postponed until later this year.

Looking forward to our first post COVID Do

Received cancellations of both our hotel room and the flights up to GLA yesterday. Rather than try to rebook on different flight there, we have taken ourselves off the list and cancelled the return as well as our LHR car parking. I think it is very unlikely that this do will be able to happen on the original date anyway.

Absolutely up for trying again at a later time!
