Can I help my parents? (Avios, NZ, travel without me)
Hi all
My parents have a need to go to Auckland (AKL) around Christmas 2020 - dates can be flexible. I can never find any time to actually use my own Avios so I'm looking to see if there is any way I can help my parents with their trip. I will not be travelling with them. Origin airport is Edinburgh (EDI). They prefer to travel J (as do we all....).
My status:
I know that most benefits around Avios and vouchers are geared towards the earner, but I just want to see if I have overlooked anything.
Many thanks
Jim

My status:
- I have a stash of around 1.3M Avios,
- I have two GUF1
- I have a GUF2
- I have one Joker
- I am currently a GGL, and have 3800 TP.
- My year resets in August (so I will still be a GGL when they fly).
- I do not have an Avios Family Account

Many thanks

I know you said you don't have a household account.. But if they have their own BAEC accounts then you can add them into a household account so they can use your Avios.

Easiest solution I can see.
Add both your parents to your friends and family list. Not the household account
Find dates that work with the right availability D class for J and A class for First
Call ggl and make the booking using your joker and your avios EDI LHR sin Syd for them you don't need to be on the booking it will open up the space for all BA flights on the ticket .
If you are really splurging use the Guf2 to put them in F or just redeem with the joker for the F seats instead if you are avios rich
Book a separate ticket on avios Syd to AKL
That's how I would do it.

I have done the same as above for mum and sister to Delhi. Household Account and Friends and Family List. Used Avios and GUF2 plus Joker to get them into First and CCR At LHR.
You don’t need to travel with them.

Wow, I thought everyone would be too hungover to reply on Boxing Day Thank you everyone for the quick and detailed replies, it looks like it could be possible after all. I will research dates and then call the GGL number and see what they can do.
Many thanks folks.

Be careful if you make a separate booking for SYD-AKL. They will need to collect their luggage and re-check at SYD and will need to allow extra time for that (they will also need the Australian e-visa as a consequence). Note that baggage return and customs and quarantine procedures can take quite some time at SYD. I recommend leaving at least 4 hours between flights if you are booking them separately.

Worth noting this will require actual award space, as the Joker won’t be useful on non-BA metal.

MH via KUL also an option, not sure how that goes with award space but they are decent enough

Other oneworld routes that might be possible to AKL from London.
QR via DOH (excellent qsuites on the DOH-AKL route, DOH is easily transited)
CX via HKG (tho if booking via BA they will likely force you onto their BA flights for the HKG-LON leg)
MH via KUL
These routes are bookable via BA Avios - they all even have BA codeshare numbers tho that won't help your joker.
You should see them online on the BA website if there's availability and would be able to make this all on one ticket protecting you from delays.
I would highly encourage not going via Australia. If you're trying to get to EDI you're already doing 2 stopovers.

QR flys from EDI (and other UK airports)

CX flys into CHC (may help with award availability)
Christmas - New Year is a very popular time for awards

My understanding is an award EDI-LHR-SIN-SYD cannot be combined with a revenue ticket. (if SYD-AKL is a separate ticket)
A BA marketed /QF operated (codeshare) SYD-AKL would need to be a tag on to a paid ticket. Could not be purchased separately.
