I find it rather disappointing to see the complaints about this service already.
For me, it is a genuine, positive improvement to the BA F product which I welcomed very much. So much so I sent a mail of thanks/compliment to the GGL team.

The debate on multiple devices was really triggered by an 'I don't see the point, so can't see it why it might be useful for anyone else' comment. I've not seen any complaints on the free offering itself.

On United Airlines, they overcome this by making you sign in and using Switch Device to jump between your devices. Works well and, as noted above, most people have at least two devices.
