That is not entirely correct, certain fruits (up to 2kg) are permitted from outside the EU.

What you can and cannot bring from countries outside the EU or Switzerland

If you’re bringing animal and animal product into the UK, then Gibraltar and Cyprus are treated as non-EU countries.

There are extra restrictions for the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Iceland.

You cannot bring in:
  • meat and meat products
  • milk or dairy products, other than powdered infant milk, infant food, special foods and special pet feed needed for medical reasons
  • potatoes and potato seeds
  • more than 2kg per person of any mixture of restricted fruit and restricted vegetables
  • seeds of Fraxinus (Ash) and Castanea (Sweet chestnut) for planting
  • Ash, citrus and vine plants
  • loose soil
  • The products you can bring in, and how much you can bring, are described in the following table.
Fruit and vegetables 2kg Maximum 2kg per person applies to any mixture of restricted fruit and restricted vegetables: apple, apricot, aubergine, avocado, bitter cucumber, bitter gourd, blackcurrant, blueberry, celeriac, celery, cherry, citrus fruits (all), cranberry, custard apple, date plum, gooseberry, grape, guava, jambolan, kiwi, kumquat, mango, papaya, passion fruit, peach, pear, persimmon, plum, quince, raspberry, redcurrant, rose apple, strawberry, sweet basil.

This is actually the second durian thread in the past 4 weeks or so. The other thread followed the same course. Perhaps just troll posts I guess.

Not so:

Edit: I see we posted at much the same time, you confirming the personal allowance of 'up to 2kg' of fruit from outside the EU in my link above.

Old Mr MeltingAlf managed to bring back durian on China Eastern, but it has to be 1) frozen first and 2) vacuum packed.

Freezing it usually ensures durian smells won't escape; but also - is it not possible to check it in?

The combination of a) Durian b) Club World and c) given how the recent Durian thread went the whole thing sounds like a troll/ fun post to me (or maybe its just me who assigns a higher than average intellect to anyone affording CW in general)

At least I hope I am right

Thanks to all and understood. I will obtain the fruit in the UK as one of the posters mentioned, are there any recommendations? Otherwise perhaps I google it.

Didn’t realise the question would cause a heavy reaction, but at least we get to a unanimous answer!

Very wise:

A plane made an emergency landing while pilots donned oxygen masks when a shipment of durians stank out the aircraft cabin.

"The Air Canada Rouge jet had just taken off for Vancouver from Montreal when the crew detected a “strong odour” onboard the Boeing 767 aircraft.

Crew wanted to investigate the source of the stench, which had spread through the entire cabin.

When it could not be detected, the pilots made a request for an emergency landing, reported Flight Global.

They put on oxygen masks and returned to Montreal, where it was discovered that the smell was coming from a shipment of the smelly fruit in the forward cargo compartment."

Indonesian plane grounded after passengers complain about stinky durian.

"... Around two tonnes of durian, the world's stinkiest fruit, was in the cargo hold of the Sriwijaya Air flight, bound for Jakarta from Bengkulu.

Passengers demanded that the fruit be removed, with some almost coming to blows with crew members.

The airline eventually relented and unloaded sacks of the durian fruit..."

I feel we may have found the reason behind the recent uptick in aircraft 'toxic fume' incidents - illegal Durian trafficking
