I think you're just asking for them to be broken/lost if you use them on checked luggage. However if people like to use them then fair enough.
Not much use unless you fly BA anyway are they? |

The only time a tag should be used (IMHO) is on checked luggage. People that put them on their cabin baggage strike me as people who think to have a shiny gold or silver tag makes them look more important
|
Your opinion is not particularly ‘humble’, IMHO. ;)
Yea, for we tag our hand baggage too, for verily it facilitates Ground Staff in identifying us as proper denizens of Group 1. :D |

It helps me in cases like the previous one and it's easier for the airline to link the bag to the owner without the need to write on a generic tag my phone number. When I fly Star Alliance I tend to swap tags... I would never want to upset anyone around with too many tags on my bag :p |
I use bag tags as it contains a membership no and airline reference in case it gets lost. On my big suitcase I have also written my phone no but no name or address. As I sometimes have to check in my roller it’s a tag on that one for that very reason.
The big suitcase is nail polish red with plenty of stickers, including one promoting the communist party, and the roller is blue. Extremely easy to identify and the tags are not there to brag. If people choose to judge me because of it then that says more about them... |

A tag is simply one I put on my bag for work so that my Director can see that I achieved some status despite his determined effort to make me travel the world for him at the very back of the plane, or cargo hold if he had his wish.
|
I use one in the hope that gate personnel pass me over when they are looking for people to force to check in their carry on at the gate.

Oh, I'm sure that some people will retain an opinion that this is one of those 'look at me' things and frankly they are entitled to have that opinion whether they have met me in person or not. It'll just happen to be a wrong opinion. I don't really mind tbh. |

Your user name and the long list of affiliations adorned in your profile may make others suggest the same about yourself! As you may have guessed, I do attach my card to my roll on for the very simple reason I was getting fed up of being asked to check in my hand luggage by jobsworth gate agents which always seemed to be the case travelling from LHR - NCL. Since making myself 'look more important', the requests have stopped. Whether people have that opinion of me or otherwise, I don't really care. |
Oh it's definitely a personal statement. My laptop bag that goes with me on almost every trip is festooned with these things. I'm actually pretty proud of how it looks

I use mine but put them inside a nice leather tag with a flap so you can't see what is inside unless you make a point of looking. I too am not a fan of putting BAEC tags on luggage for all to see (smacks a little of DYKWIA to me) but they do serve a purpose if they are needed.
As for identifying my luggage... red cases make by Jeep... very easy to identify even from 100 paces! |

It allows staff at the first wing to quickly identify me, call my personal buttler to escort me through to the CCR, where as I sip Krug and get a foot massage, my personal transfer in a S class merc to the plane with my first suite with a separate lounge & bedroom is arranged.
I feel pity for those of you who need gold cards for anything else. |
They could be worn as medals

In my senior years, as I may forget who I am, it will assist the cabin crew, ground staff, and perhaps even myself, identify me.
|
My 7yr old kid loves luggage tags so we save them up, stick them on our bags and he can choose and steal our tags off our backs (literally) as we go along. Its a bit of fun and an incentive for good behaviour. He gets bored of them though and tends to customize them soon enough. The looks of envy on some faces as he destroys another gold card...heh

I haven't put mine on my luggage - aside from being a lowly Silver who doesn't want to look like they're trying too hard, they don't look especially secure... |
It seems about time to resurrect this thread to discuss how the move to digital tags during the pandemic and lack of ability to order new ones is affecting bag tag displays now we are all getting back to flying again.
luggage handling systems seem to trash about one out of 5 tags on hold luggage in my experience so will we see their gradual disappearance ? |
My bronze and silver ones are tucked safely in a drawer, I have old KLM silver ones that I use.

However, the baggage-mangling reveals an interesting statistic. Why, despite having identical cases, is it always HER bag-tag that gets mangled, while mine survive? Why not Me Too? Anyway, I always have a couple of spare tags in the travel wallet! |

What's the view about using pale grey leather Concorde tags, or the old style burgundy leather F tags on hand luggage? I have a collection that are gathering dust.
How's that for show-offiness (they were collected on flights not bought on ebay !) - I have donned my flame-retardant costume before posting .... |

I never thought I’d achieve it. And I tag my bags. Anyone who is triggered by my using of a piece of plastic given to me by the airline for that specific purpose - has complex self esteem issues. |

Whilst I do have a Gold tag available if there’s a risk of any unwelcome gate-checking, the one I use most frequently for my luggage is this one.
It’s not as relevant as it used to be but sometimes raises a smile from the more experienced crew. My last name and BAEC number are on the reverse. My son has one which rather appropriately just says “muppet” 😄 https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...9ec6d1fa5.jpeg |

It is an ego thing and for this reason I put it on the bag I took to work. To let my senior directors know that I might be a field worker but I have a gold tag and they don't. :)

At least based on my experience (not BA specific) - it is at times useful to have it either on checked or cabin bags - a few times in my travels the last few years, they do come in helpful when using the priority check-in counters. Most noticeable experience
- using the SkyPriority area at AMS - as those who fly often from here, they do have someone standing to filter eligible pax using it and most of the time, when approaching or passing them, when they see the tags, they just wave me through - a few times, I noticed that I even at the First check-in area at T5, after a quick glance and they see my Gold tag I am greeted with a Welcome if there's a staff before entering the area - at a few outstation, after asking and seeing the tags on the bag, they usually don't ask for more evidence of using the priority check-in area/counter. - a few times, at the gate when they are looking for bags to gate-check, normally with the tag, they do tend to avoid that from happening Just a few experience from my side - for me, as long as it's not over the top (I have seen especially in the US) pax with a bunch of these tags on their bags - not sure if it's for DYKWIA reason or nostalgic reason to hang year after year the new tags that they receive. Cheers! |
Has anyone suggested BA Gold facemasks? I spy a gap in the market
|
I prefer to travel incognito, so don’t use tags on my checked or cabin baggage.
I may need to rethink the dark glasses, fedora and trench coat though ….. |

Hello people
Slightly off topic but are they still sending out physical status cards automatically? If not what status level do you have to be to request one? Seeing lots of conflicting info online. I just qualified for bronze, will be silver by beggining of July and gold by end of August. And before anyone says anything, yes I would love a good tag for ego reasons; I'm 19 and in my view gold is a pretty good achievement solely on my own at that age. I would also like it if it avoids getting my carry on checked at the gate which has happened to me a couple of times before. |

You can order tags and cards when you're gold, you can do it online or you can call if the online method doesn't work. You should get sent a welcome pack when you reach gold although there are some reports that this isn't happening.

Glad I had a tag on my carry on last week. Entered through the First Wing, Identical bag already in the tray ahead of me, with identical lock on it as well. My only unique thing was the gold card. I had sure to wait a couple of trays before sending mine through, but without the tag it could have been confusing at the other side of the scanner. Other bag had no ID that I could see. It's the only time my carry on goes out of my sight, and the only time it could have been lost.

I reached Gold a couple of weeks ago and ordered the tags and card online on 23 May and they arrived on 30 May which seemed incredible given BA's current woes. Production and despatch are probably outsourced and this is one part of their IT they haven't managed to break yet. No sign of a welcome pack though, as @firstlight suggests.
In light of BAs current issues, our renewal pack arrived early as well, in fact a whole month early. Earliest it's been since joining BAEC 13 years ago. Though my partner's is nowhere to be seen yet .(same renewal date). So was surprised, but I've never had a need for the tags really. The 2 golden tickets are normally handy as I forget to submit them online often. |
