BA 292 [IAD-LHR] cancelled tomorrow (11/23)
 

Hi all

Just got word a bit earlier today my IAD-LHR flight was cancelled tomorrow; looking at EF I don't see any reason. In any event, I had booked via AA and they were able to get me on an alternate flight that gets me to Europe a bit earlier (if not as conveniently).

Two questions: any idea why they cancelled? It seems odd to cancel 36 hours in advance.
Second question: looking back at BA 292 it seems to have been cancelled around once a week for the past few weeks. Does that seem right?

This is a 787 service, so I don't 100% know, but I would be pretty certain this is Trent engine related, and you'll find plenty more of this elsewhere in the forum. But the short answer is that the early onset of fatigue cracking on the turbine blades is leading to a shortage of aircraft for BA.

You should apply for EC261 - see the separate thread. However BA have often turned down claims, so you may need to research this and use the Alternative Dispute Resolution process, handled by CEDR. Again see the main thread for this.

Brief follow-up. I got rebooked on AA and kept my J seats on a somewhat less convenient booking. I applied for EC 261 and funds arrived in my account today and should be on the way for my partner's ticket.
