Is a 1:50 connection time adequate?
Sorry, I know I’ve seen many questions like this but my search came up empty.
Traveling LAX-CPH and am being offered BA 1509/820 with a 1 hour 50 minute connection time at LHR. Is this a reasonable amount of time or should I look for something a bit longer? Will be in business if it’s relevant Thank you |
perfectly fine. MCT within T5 is 60 minutes, And if any of these fights is from T3 then MCT T3-T5 is 90 minutes.

Hi,
I think BA 1509 is a code share with AA ( AA metal ) so it will come into T3 and then have a bus transfer to T5 ( then a security check at flight connections) before the CPH flight. There is still sufficient time for the transfer. Regards TBS |
Perfect, thanks!

I'm wondering the same. I have 70 mins from my flight landing in LHR from LAX, to get to my flight leaving LHR for GVA. Seems quite tight.

If you are on one ticket then you'll be protected and rebooked onto the next available flight But remember that tens of thousands of people every day make their connections. |
1hr50 longhaul T3 - T5 is “adequate”. ie the chances are that you will probably make the connection, and possibly miss it.
Whether it is “good” depends on your personal consequences of missing the connection (would it be OK just to be booked onto the next flight, or is there a pressing reason to arrive at the planned time ?), and your desire to make full use of the lounge facilities. |
My home airport is GVA and if flying XXX-LHR-GVA I was more than happy to take the tightest connection available as there are plenty of flights LHR-GVA (almost every hour) so if I missed a connection, I could be pretty sure of getting another flight fairly quickly.
Doing the trip the other way, GVA-LHR-XXX where LHR-XXX was only once or twice a day, I would tend to build in a longer connection time at LHR, but not always. I remember once doing a GVA-LHR-IAD with the 60 minute MCT at T5, catching the IAD, but pretty much having the aircraft doors closed behind me and I know T5 fairly well, so don't get lost. There's not much reserve with 60 minutes and it suffices for your incoming flight not to have the gate ready, security to be slow or something similar for you to be running. |
I'd be happy with a 1hr50 connection at LHR, not so happy with 70 minutes but it's all down to personal risk and chances of getting to destination on a later flight if it all goes wrong

The time quotes is above MCT and you are on one booking so you should make it but you’ve only got to look at. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...ng-delays.html.where you can see that fog caused slot delays at Heathrow today and whilst the OP made his connection 36 people didn’t. There were also delays and cancellations earlier this week due to the winds and rain.
I think the question you need to ask is what’s the implications if I miss that flight. Will I miss a one off life changing event and do I need to travel earlier/allow more time. |
Thanks everyone. Looks like there are plenty of flights to GVA. I'm on one ticket so no issues with being rebooked. I'd prefer to just get there, but a couple hours in the lounge isn't terrible either. Definitely could be worse.
