Thumbs up Innovation Vacancies

I have just come across 2 new vacancies on the BA job board.

"The Innovation Team drives positive change by using a hypothesis-driven approach to solve problems, explore new opportunities and ideas for the business. "

Innovation Lead

"The Innovation Lead is a hybrid role of product ownership and delivery. Using Agile values and principles, and a start-up mentality, you will develop a product at speed. It is expected that you will own and have authority in the product area and establish effective relationships with stakeholders. You will support and shape the progression of Agile Apprentices."

Innovation Executive

"The Innovation Executive will support the Innovation Team to ensure successful delivery of products and to prove concepts through a hypothesis approach. Using Agile values and principles, and a start-up mentality, you will develop a product at speed. It is expected that you will be accountable for units of work that deliver meaningful value to both colleague and customer groups. Making effective use of Agile values and principles."

"Our Corporate and Support roles come with big potential to make your mark on our business. The airline industry changes so fast that we’re constantly evolving and finding new ways to impress customers and get ahead of our competitors. If you’re an innovator and brave and bold thinker, you will be in your element at British Airways."

Sounds like BA may be pulling out all the stops to get ahead of the game. Both roles focussing on developing products at speed to impress customers and get ahead of competitors using Agile values and principles and looking for innovators who are brave and bold thinkers.

We all heavily criticise the arline in anything they do. Let's face it, even Club Suite is still not considered groundbreaking nor can it hold a candle to the Qsuite. So any FT'ers have what it takes?

Reads like an "Agile" consultant write a job description ( for themselves?). The way you approach/run projects pales in comparison to what projects you green light and your ability to execute.

Deep sigh. If this role is leading innovation at BA, then it is doomed. That the specialist knowledge required for the role is "to be a confident user of Office 365' says it all

I am a competent office 365 user.

I also have a business that covers health & safety, catering and customer service. And we have a regulatory requirement too.

I might apply for this 🤣

The 'innovative' part is thinking up descriptions which make the 'enhancements' appear as benefits to the customer;

e.g. BOB - so weight conscious passengers don't feel guilty about having to eat something they don't want but which they've paid for up-front

less leg room - passengers will not be able to sit comfortably so they will be constantly moving; this generates exercise and helps to prevent DVT

It’s worth underlining that there’s a digital team (looking after the website and app and trying desperately to recover the ground lost by Alex’s bad idea of outsourcing the app and relative knowledge), and the ‘innovation’ team, which I’ve grown to know.

There’s an ‘innovation’ team in every company. Call it digital, call it innovation, call it however you want. In some companies this team sometimes fails but sometimes delivers disruptive tech, stuff that really delivers. In other companies this team does very little but powerpoints, goes on jollies around the world and is very good in appropriating the work of others.

The innovation team I’ve seen in BA falls in the latter category. They’re trying to mirror what IAG digital does but without IAG’s money, expertise or capabilities.

It's important that they understand Excel terms like 'Insert Row' for seating densification.

They do agile cleaning. Anything past the cockpit is still in the back log.
