Esta disaster

Does anyone know how quick esta applications move from pending to approval? Screen shows 72 hrs, after just making new application!

We travel to US tomorrow from London and wife forgot that she had new passport this summer and so old esta is now not valid.

On the plus side at least it’s not my .... up for once!

Try logging out and back in in about 5-10 minutes.

From previous threads on this, it says this, but keep checking every hour, as it's very often much sooner than this,

ISTR a delay was introduced a year or so back. It used to be virtually instantaneous ... I was printing a hard copy before leaving the web page!

I applied for a new one last week, for the same reason, and it was approved in c2 hours. Don’t fret. Yet.

We’re hopefully flying out late PM so timings won’t work but thanks and have a great flight ✈️

Never got a confirmation email, but have always found approved when logging in the next day. YMMV but pretty hopeful I would say.

Apply for ESTA no later than 72 hours before departing for the United States. Real-time approvals will no longer be available and arriving at the airport without a previously approved ESTA will likely result in being denied boarding.
The above wording has been on the CBP ESTA site for several months if not more than a year.

The issue is not whether your wife get approval coming through into her ESTA account but whether or not BA receives the CBP approval (it partly generates the 'docs approved on BPs) and that is what they will go on.

There was a post a little while ago on another airlines board where a passenger was denied boarding because the airline hadn't received the 'marker' from the CBP despite the passengers last minute apllication being approved by the CBP.
