Sniffer dogs GF T5

I've just see two police officers wander through GF with sniffer dogs- two coppers each with a dog. It was a pretty casual and relaxed stroll and they didn't seem to be aiming for anything specific, but I've never seen that inside GF so it did get me wondering if it was a random patrol which takes place from time to time or whether it was intelligence led.

Has as anyone else seen this in GF previously?

It would be quite interesting to see what would happen if the dogs responded to a bag or person 😂.

They are on the lookout for those who might take a bag of crisps from the lounge...

yes this is a regular occurance though when a patrol takes place is random.

The dogs take particular exception to those with feet on seats and who think their coat and bag need seats of their own

They were ‘practicing’ in Galleries Club when I was in there last year, near to where the computer desks are.

One of the Police Officers (without the mutt) asked me if he could put what appeared to be a small cardboard tube with ‘Training Aid’ printed on it behind my carry-on bag (not in it). I said by all means, so it was placed out of sight behind my bag.

A few minutes later the dog and handler appeared. The dog started to sniff around the area at the handler’s direction by pointing. The dog sniffed at me then my bag and just froze.

The handler gave the dog a fuss and threw a ball a few feet away which the dog chased. The other officer recovered the ‘item’ and thanked me for my assistance.
I said that I was pleased to be of help to them.

For info, at no time that I could see did the dog sniff around the food areas etc.

There are also dogs trained to smell banknotes and food items ( such as meats)

But wouldn't those items be perfectly legal in an airport lounge?

The one I saw in Galleries Club was FX - explosive, gun oil/parts and sometihng else which I have forgotten.

I think it is Border Force/Customs who have the drug dogs as I have seen their dogs and handlers working in the arrivals hall at MAN sniffing around the carousel and the people stood around the carousel.

Large quantities of cash are an issue ... perceived as ‘proceeds of crime’. Meat products would be an issue on importation .

Cash is legal, but amounts over 10,000 euro need to be declared to Customs. The dogs smell large amounts of cash to combat money laundering and drug smuggling ( and the proceeds from it)

Not necessarily as you can get landside from the lounges.
