Any way of upgrading using Avios from Y to J?

I understand you can only UUA to move up one class. Therefore, if I want to upgrade into CW I would need a WTP ticket.

However, what if there is reward availability in both WTP and CW ..... could I upgrade my WT cash ticket to WTP using UuA and then, separately, use UuA again to upgrade my new WTP ticket to CW?

No, because a ticket that has already been UuAd is then in a booking class that cannot be UuAd.

If a personal rather than work-paid ticket, I guess you could do this and, on top, sort-of achieve what the OP wants to do by using Avios to get a discount on the initial WTP ticket, albeit it at a fairly poor rate.
