A380 v 787-9

Hi all,

looking to to book a trip to California in F on either the A380 (SFO) or 787-9 (SJC). Apart from the smaller cabin is the Dreamliner just as good a seat etc as the 380? Been in F on the 380 a couple of times & enjoyed it thoroughly.

Thanks,

gaz

In my opinion the 789 outbound would be my preferred on the day flight for a comfy seat with great IFE. I however find it quite noisy and for a feeling of extra space would fly home on the A380

I'd agree with that also.

I prefer the more spacious a380 anytime.

Hi,

The 789 F seat does not allow for buddy dining as the tv screen is where the buddy would sit. Also only 1 F lavatory in the 789 compared to 2 in the A380 . The windows are electronically dimmed on the 789 ( they do not go completely dark IME) compared to electrically opersted blinds on the A380.

Both are good but prefer the A380

Regards

I personally like F on the 789 better; however, one of its drawbacks is that the cabin tends to be fairly hot. The temperature can be 20C in the galley and 24-25 in the cabin. Crew told me that the space is fairly small, the airflow is disrupted by the thick curtains and therefore it gets to be a bit of a sauna. I found it's worse in the first row rather than in the second.

There have been several threads on that very comparison. I would recommend a search for a full range of opinions and details.

Note also that for the return the new SFO lounge is infinitely superior to the third party lounge at SJC

Im actually going to vote for the 787 on this one. For some reason I never sleep well on the A380, I don't understand why. There isn't a massive difference in the upper deck A380 and 787 cabin, but I do quite like the front, smaller, 789 CW.

Flown on both and nothing compares to the Dreamliner. I always arrive feeling more refreshed - it’s just so much quieter and the reduced pressurization difference is a godsend.

Surely the 787 and the A380 have the same cabin pressure at around 6,000 feet. As for a 787 being quieter than an A380 (in First), surely not! A380 every time for us.

I might be wrong but I thought the A380 was pressurised at something closer to 7,000ft whereas the 787 is around 6,000. I also believe that the A380 still uses a bleed air system, whereas the 787 has electric compressors (without going through the engines’ route). Someone also told me the humidity is better on 787s and A350s.

Besides all the above of which I am not really an expert, I do personally find the environment on 787s better. I still can’t get over the single toilet choice made by BA though and surely the cabin in the A380 feels more spacious.
