Avios points for others

Just wondering, my parents have around 200,000 Avios points between them. Can they book flights for other people and get a reduction in price using some miles? Or does Avios points have to be used by the person that has them? I know you can do this with Virgin but not sure if BA did it. Many thanks.

Yes they can book flights for others using their avios.

I can see no reason why not.

This from the "Part Payment" T&C ...

8. When a Member makes a booking using Avios, the Member must make the relevant payment for the ticket. The Avios will be debited from the Member’s Executive Club account, for each passenger on the booking.
......
11. In the case of a Household Account, current redemption rules apply regarding the debiting of Avios across the accounts of the Household members. However, Members of a Household Account can make Avios part-payment bookings for people outside of the Household Account.

Yes they can do it but be careful the account doesn't get locked if they are going to do this with all the AVIOS.

I've booked for a friend and daughter in the past and simply phoned up to explain it was a great for them.

The BAEC line said phoning was a good thing to do and not because of their comission.

They can use Avios to book flights for other people, yes, but not to reduce the cash price for other passengers I don't think.
They can of course use the Avios for themselves, either for rewards flights, or to reduce the price of a cash booking.

Thanks everyone.

They can also transfer avios to another account.

Transferring Avios

You can also top-up another Member’s account, when they live at a different address from you, by transferring Avios to them. That way, they can enjoy their next reward* flight sooner.

However, that costs money unless the person transferring is BAEC Gold.
