Flying BA 254 BGI-LHR on March 6 and it’s been moved from a CS 772 to an old CW 77W … I was so looking forward to the new Club Suite … fingers crossed this changes again until then …

Looks like BOS-LHR changed from 2x daily both on CS to 3x daily with .. 1x CS and 2xCW, for... Reasons.
Thankfully, the one CS flight is also the best flight timing (latest departure), so I'm unaffected on an upcoming booking, aside from a now-illegal LHR connection.

Flying LHR-MCO with my wife and two young kids on 4th August. Booked all the way back in September last year when it was showing as the new A350 with CWS. Shortly after this reverted to a 777 with CW, which had remained that way until I just checked this morning when it has changed back to the 777 double-cabin CWS (outbound).
Given we’re now 14 days out from departure, what are the chances of things staying this way? Would it be unusual for BA to switch aircraft two weeks out, and then switch again in the interim?
Looking at the seat map, there are relatively limited spots where all four of us can sit close to one another. On that basis, I’m just about prepared to bite the bullet and fork out £400 to book our seats, but in the event the aircraft was changed again and our seats were different, would I get my money back?
Thanks!

1. I assume (or hope), given we haven’t got the seats that we paid for, that we are entitled to a refund. Is this automatic or is there some convoluted process I need to go through?
2. Someone mentioned previously that on such a 4-class plane running only 3 classes, that F seats become available for a short period and will be used (running a CW service) in the event that the CW cabin is oversubscribed. If this is / was a possibility, have we missed this window given we fly at 13:30 on Thursday?
3. I assume the chances of this now reverting back again to CWS is about 0.01% at this late stage; would that be fair?
Pretty frustrated, more for my wife and kids than myself as it’s their first time flying business whilst I’ve been lucky to do it regularly, but I have to remind myself that as first world problems go, this is up there…

Well, frustratingly just a couple of days out from our flight, the aircraft has been reverted to a non-CWS variant. Having paid £400 to reserve 4 seats in a row (keeping us all together, but the kids away from each other so they can’t mess about with each other), I have a couple of questions:
1. I assume (or hope), given we haven’t got the seats that we paid for, that we are entitled to a refund. Is this automatic or is there some convoluted process I need to go through?

2. That's pure luck. Sometimes it opens early, everyone gets cleared out and then airport ops assign the seats, sometimes it isn't used at all, and then sometimes it never opens up but people are moved to that cabin at the gate. You don't have a right to use them, BA will only open the cabin if they need it. By all means keep an eye on it in MMB, but it's a lottery.
3. Anything can happen. Have a look at flights in the few days before your flight for an idea. But this close out, it's very unlikely indeed.

1. You'll have to open up a case with Customer service after flying, but you're entitled to a refund yes. It can be anything from a week to multiple chasers but you should be alright because it sounds straightforward. Make sure you don't reselect seats though as BA might say that you transferred your money towards that, however unfair it may seem (that includes point 2!!)

You can check loads on Expert Flyer (see screenshot below). For your case it is likely the cabin will be used because its a busy flight, but the seats in the F cabin are still blocked (second screenshot). There are currently no seats for sale in economy, 1 in premium and 4 in business. But even if you pick seats in the F cabin, there's no guarantee that they will stay yours and won't be assigned by status.

MMB is manage my booking, where you'd normally pick your seats.

TLDR; The general consensus is to do nothing and keep your current seats. The main risk is if you are at some stage able to pick seats in the Flub (First + Club), you may well end up getting booted back into Club in seats less disirable than the ones you currently have. Maybe less of an issue with Club Suites, but more concerning if you get moved back to the last row by the toilets and just in front of the WT+ bassinet seats. If you are eligible via status (seems being GGL helps) then they would have found you anyway. Large groups seem less likely to get flubbed. They'll usually only move the minimum number of people up to accomodate everyone in Club. In short there is no evidence choosing Flub seats helps you in any way. If you're going to get flubbed, they will find you.

Incidentally the seats in F have just be one available according to an alert I just received from my Seat Alerts app. However, they do not appear in MMB.
Given we don’t have particularly desirable seats anyway, how would I go about trying to select them?

Well if they don’t appear in MMB, you can’t select them and there’s not much to do. I guess if you really don’t care about your current seats, then go ahead and try if and when able. I’d be interested to see what happens so please report back. But I fear with no status and a group of 4, you’ll end up back in Club. Another strategy might be to keep your eyes peeled and maybe someone else tries to move up at which point better seats in Club become available.

She suggested that they will become available at the point of online check-in, so will try that and see how we go. If not, hey ho, it’s just a slight shame as it was the first time in business for my wife and two kids and was looking forward to showing them the suite, but I’m sure they’ll enjoy it regardless.

Our YVR-LHR flight for Dec 2022 is showing a 4 class 77H. I assume the 3 row minicabin behind F is the preferred place to book business class seats on this aircraft?

Hi JonnyA
As one of the posters who thought BA's CS schedule would stick I do feel guilty you paid for seat selection only for them to switch the plane last minute. Looking at the MMB seat map, I presume you aren't seeing what is available on EF (i.e. all window seats in F available for selection?), in which case I would ask if row 14 & 15 A&B is not suitable for the family given row 15 allows the window seat person to exit without stepping over anybody and row 14 will just be stepping over a family member?

Ultimately, if it’s just regular CW all I am really bothered about is that the kids have an adult sat with them, which I believe the airline is legally bound to see to.
In a nutshell, if the option to try and get those seats in first arises I’ll happily sunk my £400 into have a chance at getting them, but if not I’ll be fervently chasing a refund for the booked seats that we didn’t get.
Oh, and please don’t feel any guilt. I asked a question, you answered it to the best of your knowledge. It didn’t play out but that’s absolutely no fault of yours.
