If you get a nice agent, you may be lucky at the airport but its certainly not policy to do that unless theres disruption, but even if there is , theyll want to be getting passengers away sooner rather then deferring them to later flights.
Id be curious what happened in the end. Do report back

BA 143 - LHR - DEL
Shows flying with 787 (probably 788 or 789 and not 787-100 or 781).
I believe this will not have Club Suit with privacy door. Would have preferred to be on A350 but unlikely to change from 787 to A350 on that route.

Almost 0 chance of this changing to an A350. Very slim chances it'll be a 787-10 also given there are only 2 of these in the fleet and they seem to be consistently being used for USA, particularly ORD. If anything a 777 swap is possible and then it's a lottery of whether that'll be Club Suite or not. BA have not formally announced a new updated schedule for when the 787s will start being refurbished. The 787 deliver embargo being lifted by FAA should help bring a few more ready and built 787-10s out of storage into BA's fleet.

Do the forward most/bulkhead sets in each part of the club suite cabin have larger footwells? Eg 5A and 5K on the 77W. Thanks.

Same day change is only for short-haul, simple, point-to-point itineraries and not for long-haul itineraries with BA. AA offer this on their own services but not BA.

She did apologise and offer to find me a better seat, but then said the cabin was full so I'd have to stay where the computer picked for me. I asked about F upgrade and was quoted the AUP price but seconds later told sorry actually F is also full.
Once on board overheard a few comment like why are we facing backwards and these aren't the seats we chose, etc. There were a few people asking others to swap seats so they could sit with their partner/friend/family etc. Crew did not get involved and let passengers sort it out amongst themselves.

BA aim to have all 777s fitted by January, personally I dont see how they will manage that. I was booked to SIN in January but cancelled because I think I think the chances are itll be the old CW seat.

Slightly regretting that decision as things stand, especially as the Virgin lounge experience is much better. Still keeping my fingers crossed that we might strike lucky and end up with CS, but not holding my breath all the same.
Its the first time flying business for my wife and kids, whilst Ive done it countless times, so Ill be more disappointed for them if anything. Still, its the epitome of a first world problem so Ill not let myself lose any sleep over it.

Does anyone know why when the 77M's were upgraded to Club suites the First cabins remained the older type? I think this just leaves the 77M and the A380's with the original First seats? - I know the 787-9's have a slightly refreshed seat without a door?

In addition to the above its looking very possible that the 77Ms will be replaced from 2025 with the 777Xs on order, so the ROI was probably not worth it for what could be seen as a relatively minor upgrade (compared with the step change from club world to club suites).

Surely that would be a good time to launch a new F seat?...

Frustratingly I specifically chose BA over Virgin when I booked our Orlando holiday for this August, all the way back in September last year, because the flight was showing as the new CS A350 whilst Virgin had their old herringbone product.

unfortunatelywe did the exact same thing when we booked in November. They switched from the A350 to the 777 two weeks later and didnt care that we were stuck with the old aircraft. We leave this Thursday and while there was a new CS 777 three days last week, it is the old CS today through Wednesday, so Im not optimistic well get a CS on Thursdays flight. Horrible alternative.

Are the 787s definitely scheduled to start the refurb next year?
