IFE on LGW 777s

Just about to depart on a LGW 777 to UVF

Cant find the IFE status in the wiki

Think im going to be on G YMMR

BertieBadger Jul 12, 2019 1:56 am

I was going to ask the relevance to short haul catering ;) (Admittedly that may make no sense to anyone but the OP!)

Wiki here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...ing-777-a.html suggests ye olde Rockwell Collins for G-YMMR

Wiki here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...8-onwards.html suggests that one has not yet been densified/refitted.

Lastly the ever helpful BA Source also suggests Rockwell Collins: G-YMMR The BA Source

So load up the tablet I guess.....

Oh, bad luck. We had G-VIIs to ANU earlier this month, both with Thales. ;)

PETER01 Jul 12, 2019 2:06 am

Isn't G-YMMR a 3 class?

On EF today's flight to UVF is showing a 4 class 777.

allturnleft Jul 12, 2019 2:09 am

Yes think i have ducked YMMR wrong gate

So do all the refurbed ones have Thales?

BertieBadger Jul 12, 2019 2:14 am

A very good point PETER01 - EF does indeed show today's BA2159 to UVF as a 4-class

FR24 - which I appreciate is not necessarily reliable! - has G-YMMR down as operating LGW-LAS today. Perhaps one of the BA insiders could confirm what airframe is currently assigned to BA2159?

It looks like a 14F/48W on the UVF route, which should be Thales IFE or refurbed/densified with the new Panasonic IFE.

PETER01 Jul 12, 2019 2:16 am

I'm sure the 14F birds have upgraded IFE. OP, can you see the tail number as likewise Bertie I can't find the tail number.

BertieBadger Jul 12, 2019 2:20 am

Indeed the Wiki for densified 777s indicates G-VIIV/W/Y have all had their refits and therefore Panasonic IFE. VIIV and VIIY have been plying that route over the last few days.....(yesterday excepted)

Looking at the departure time, I think the OP will find out in person as quickly as reading these replies :D

I'm not exactly sure, but it's been reported as far back as Sep 2017, so it's not a recent thing. I'm not sure if it's out 100% of the time, but it seems pretty common.

Please report back how bad it is. We're flying to Cancun next Thursday and have an old crate scheduled.

EDIT: Just seen lady luck is riding with you!

How are seeing what aircraft is allocated that far out? I'd be surprised if even internally they were allocated that far in advance (any staffers care to comment?)

Your odds for decent IFE might not be as bad as you fear, having a look at the last month on the BA Source, it seems that 19 of the 22 flights on that route were operated by aircraft which have been refurbished and would therefore have the latest Panasonic systems.

ETA: I see the seat map is currently showing a 9 across WT cabin, i.e. unrefurbished, but that could certainly change (I've suffered late swaps between the refurbished and non-refurbished out of LGW myself). But the odds may have got a bit worse I admit.....

So far so good!

on Wifi

IFE good

Having been caught out with the lack of drinks in the new CW service, I am being successfully proactive!
