Nice surprise on landing

Got this email as soon I landed from SFO yesterday afternoon. Nice touch, especially as I never even used the IFE!
EDIT: I canít see the screenshot, but basically the IFE had issues during the flight and I was given 20k Avios as compensation. I didnít even notice.

I had a 100 minute delay on one of my flights today, several things went wrong, including poor weather in Central Europe. On landing, I got an email / text apologising and giving each of the reasons accurately. No Avios mind! Since most of my text messages come from one phone number, I can see all the usual "our flight is very full" messages, advance delay notifications and reminders on hand baggage sizes, but this is the first detailed apology for the delay text of this sort that I have received.

Maybe Alex is following the OíLeary and Ryanair model? Cut everything to the bone then realise it puts people off so start a marketing campaign and try being semi nice to people?

I had a similar text on Friday, the text was more informative than the airport boards and the departure time more or less exactly corresponded with our eventual departure, 90 minutes late. The airline? Ryanair.

I guess someone at Amadeus has developed a programme to scrape basic operational information and contact info together and bang it out as a text. With the summer season in full swing, by the time evening comes most flights from STN were running 60+ minutes late.

Yes, when our flight from LAS was delayed on Thursday upon landing we received a text message and email apologising for the delay.

20,000 Avios is generous by today's BA standards.

I recently got a lousy 10k avios for a subpar First flight, and I'm a GGL.

Impressive compensation package for BA!

I can only assume it was a total IFE equipment failure and Panasonic / Thales are picking up the compensation bill
