Silver status flying with non status family members - boarding priority

Do we all board at same time or do we revert to family members non status non priority boarding?

missdimeaner Jun 22, 2019 4:37 pm

I believe you can board as a family. It’s some time since I did this but when boarding with my non status family member we boarded with my silver status.

Assuming you are all on the same booking, your silver status should get everyone in the party in group 2.

Even if my BP shows Grp 2 and their BP show Grp (whatever the lowest number is)...all tickets same reservation

I have been in your situation quite a few times. Get your family organised, have all the boardng passes in the correct passport with yours on top and wait for group 2 to be called. All your family will be able to board with you.

Getting everyone through fast track security is more of an issue as they seem to have tightened up at T5 on allowing one guest only. Deciding who gets to go in the lounge as the guest can also be more tricky. Enjoy your trip.

that should not happen. Has it happened?

If you are all on the same booking you should all be in group 2

If you made 2 bookings, fir eample one for you with luggage + your silver allowance and one for everyone else without luggage then you may get this

I actually ensured that I booked all tickets in one transaction (and paid a small premium as I could have booked 2 tickets for slightly less money as 5 tickets purchased together bumped all 5 tickets into the next fare class) to allow me to

choose seats right away
have option of 2 suitcases each
priority boarding

I will try priority security in LHR if busy.

Perhaps a mistake was made last time as I did book all together and my pass and the balance of the family passes were not Group 2.

Thanks for the input.

My partner and I recently traveled same booking. I was group 2; him group 3. This was a BA holiday booking. Also didn’t get fast track in Oslo and didn’t automatically work in LHR either.

In my experience the boarding passes are not printed with the elevated group number for those without status in the same booking. However presenting to the gate with a wodge of passports and boarding passes with the relevant status first works without issue.

So the rules are found elsewhere.

One PNR - single reservation, everyone should end up with the boarding group of the highest status person.

Multiple PNRs - can end up with multiple groups, unless someone with gold status phones up to get the 'to complete party' (tcp) that means they can reserve seats for all passenger travelling in the same cabin as them.

Fast track security and lounges. Silver/gold plus one guest only.

We have to faff around a bit with two status holders and 3 or 4 kids as we go through security and lounge but boarding together has always been fine.

Didn't this change recently? When group numbers were introduced, we used to get BPs with individual groups but more recently we all get the same group number if booked together.

There is a long discussion here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...periences.html and it is covered on the BA website at: https://www.britishairways.com/en-gb...rding/boarding

It is possible that customers travelling together may receive different group numbers. In this case, please make your way to the gate where you will be able to board together.

Last year at EWR my wife and I were travelling on different PNRs. I was Grp 2, she was Grp 4. GA said to board together in Grp 2, after I asked if I should stay back with her.

there were reports late last year that a fox had been done so that group numbers across a booking would sync. In any case as noted in the wikis of those threads the policy is to let everyone on the same booking board with the highest group member.

Well that fix was obviously foxed up - not syncing elevated group numbers for me a month ago. It's never worked in my experience. 🦊

Ditto, my my family's BPs always show as group 5, whereas mine has always been 1 or 2. And yes always a single PNR.

never had any issues with boarding together or for that matter fast track security - will see if LGW has tightened that up when we go through in August...
