VY has a few A320 with a very chequered past, but those are retiring/going back to the lessor as part of their planned replacement with A320neos. This looks like a new fleet for IAGs new AOC.

Yes, indeed, although I suspect the G-GATx frames to be amongst the first to be replaced by the Max. Do Vueling have older A320s?
VY have quite a few older A320s that the bulk of these MAXs will replace, but I'd expect LGW to take up the rest

Nice to see this order finally confirmed.

I believe IAG will exercise the remaining options as time goes on, similar to Qantas style of their narrowbody order

these frames I think will sit with vueling and BA LGW

Think it’s great business for IAG. Max is a great aircraft to fly on too

50 is nowhere near replacing all of the Vueling fleet. On the other hand 150 would be around the right number. -8200 implies a dense configuration. I think the -8200 with 197 seats has around 28-29 inches of pitch - in keeping with the current BA A319s. So these -8200s could be for anyone.

IB and EI have already taken/plan to take some Vueling A320neo in the coming months. Perhaps a sign that Vueling will take the 737 with IAG retiring some of the older A320ceo and redistributing the newer A320ceo (IAE engines on many of these, so BAEF might be a good home) and NEOs elsewhere in the group.

I for one will go out of my way to avoid flying on these 737s. A320 family is an infinitely more pleasurable experience. Cannot for the life of me understand why IAG are going down this route.

In 2019, when IAG signed the MoU for the 200 max, Boeing was in deep waters... so IAG most certainly locked in a very very good price for these, probably close to cost+5-10%. That killer price and the dense config will give it a very good cost position... remember in Europe the operating cost is roughly 30% aircraft, 30% crew and 30% fuel.

These would make some sense for BA Euroflyer. Low operating cost for the lo cost unit and the deal may well include a maintenance contract given the large Boeing facility at LGW. Add in that other then FR (who is not big at LGW) there are few 737 operators of any size in the area it may then be easier to hang onto staff.

EI has 4 A320 NEO's coming shortly, given the A321XLR order seem unlikely to want to go to split fleet operations

Do you have a reliable source for such a clear statement?

I have no reason to believe that they were not telling the truth.

DO you have a source for this?

To my understanding IAG have 14 (plus an optional extra 14) A321XLR on order, 8 for Iberia, 6 for Aer Lingus.

BA have 111 A320 family in the fleet. Surely, that leaves some room (with 200 purchased) for the 737 MAX to be introduced into the BA shorthaul fleet.

Vueling exclusively fly Airbus.

You know that CIHY will not be able to reveal their source. My take on it would be, the initial 25 737-8200 and 25 737-10 go to Vueling. Then, older (CFM) A320s leave the VY fleet and newer (IAE2500) get redistributed. Beyond that, in terms of the options, IAG has always said that the Max could go to any of the airlines within the group.
