FF number switcheroo - when’s the best time to do so?
 
Having re-qualified for Gold with relative ease but in the position where I find myself highly unlikely to hit the next level - 2500 for the GUF2 - before the end of my collection year, I was hoping to take the opportunity to pad out my AAdvantage miles collection with some upcoming flights.

Currently, the bookings all have my BA number in MMB to allow me to reserve seats, and get me through the FirstWing but when should I get them to switch to my AA number - in the lounge or at the gate?

I would do it in the lounge right before you leave to go to the gate. But keep an eye on where credit is going, there have been times when it has ended up in the wrong place, apparently. I have not experienced that issue switching between BA and AA though. YMMV.
