BOAC B747 & Red Arrows 20 July RIAT

The Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) have just announced that the BOAC 747 will be participating in a flypast with the Red Arrows at the show on the 20th of July.

Just saw that too. Have never been this year, but as it is a friend’s final RIAT before he leaves the RAF I am going.

Leave a massive amount of time to get parked and into the site. Last year we queued for more than 2.5h round the edge of the airfield before getting into the (ha ha) priority parking and missed the first hour of the show. Never again.

I don’t think the Breitling enclosure is open to the great unwashed Breitling watch-wearers this year. Invited guests only.

I glanced upwards this morning noticing a flight above south London heading the wrong way for Heathrow. I could just about make it out as the BOAC 747 and was confused to see it operating a DUB-LHR service. Then I noticed it was supposedly flight number BA100. Not sure it ever went to DUB!

That flightpath almost suggests they thought the flypast was at Brize Norton Echoes of the B-52 at Blackbushe?

(Yes, I know what they were doing...)

Possibly a Planefinder hangover from the DUB-LHR BOAC delivery flight which was also filed as BAW100?

Stunning photos none-the-less!

Video from (I would guess) Red 10:

Very impressive fly past with the BA 747 and the Red Arrows

The Hawks on the apron afterwards

And later on the Red Arrows performed a double Concorde formation with the French display team Patrouille de France
