We're looking forward to welcoming you on board your flight with us from London Heathrow to Glasgow on 25 August.

We wanted to let you know that we'll be making a change to the aircraft operating your flight. Your flight will no longer be operated by a Boeing 747.

We understand that, after speculation on aviation websites, some of our customers booked on BA1482 hoping to be part of our birthday celebration. We’ll happily offer a full refund to anyone who no longer wishes to travel.

You'll be able to view the timing changes to your flight at ba.com/mmb in the next 24 hours.

If you would like to make a change to your booking, please contact us.

If you booked through a travel agent, please contact them to make any changes.
On Sunday 25 Aug - the day of BAs 100th birthday - BA are operating these domestic rotations with 747s, reportedly the three heritage-liveried aircraft :

NCL (seatmap shows a Mid-J 747) NOTE: 747 NOW APPARENTLY CANCELLED as of 07.06.2019

I wonder if the bad PR from Simon Calder's article helped change their mind? If it did, then it's unlikely that the 747s will be used on shorthaul routes for any birthday activities.

I didn't book - and I couldn't give a S*** about climate change etc etc - but it did seem like a massive waste (x3) to use these jets for these routes and not on more-economical routes?!

(by economical, I mean for BA to make more money...)

Wasn't desperate (or critical of them) - just interesting the agent couldn't even see an aircraft change. Spoke to a a duty manager (also not aware) and all sorted. I just had a few mins spare in the day so thought I would jump on the phone and sort. Will wait patiently for more birthday announcements

In the true BA tradition...the heritage aircraft have been cancelled, replaced by standard Airbuses! No e plantation or apology to the passengers who paid Ł474 single for the jolly. B.stards!

Had the same. Nice lady, who has said call my mobile number for any future issues - which is very helpful, and arguably more useful than a 747 flight to NCL!

If they really could fill a B747 with people paying Ł500 in Y for a 1 hour flight, I'd have thought that could be quite a profitable afternoon for a 747...

I have cancelled, been advised that the refund has to be done manually so I am not holding my breath on that one (last time that happened it took 3 months to get my money back).

A big thanks to C W S for his help.

Edited:- I wonder what the passengers who were originally booked on the "normal" 1327 then were moved to the 747 then now being moved back make of all this. Some very confused people I suspect.

This whole debacle is very much typical of BA’s new breed of leaders, Alex in primis:

ill conceived ideas developed without any thought on its feasibility or impact, deployed with zero comms, met with the inevitable barrage of backlash and then quickly dropped.

If, then probably... or probably not, when they can also charge more for J, F, WT to JFK (as an example)

As others have mentioned yet I see no real answer if it was speculation then why did BA clearly show the flights as a 747 during the booking process. It's yet just another major gaff by BA. They are a joke occasionally, and I feel sorry for those who booked or were willing to pay a hideous fare as booking went up almost in line with a flight cost to NYC.

Me too. Just had the same call, and I got the impression that they're going out of their way to ensure we're at the front of the queue for further celebratory events. ^

Maybe the work experience kid that thought of this has discovered that it’s not really the 100th birthday until next year. There is a massive gap in late 1919 when they stopped flying!! It states this on BA.com/heritage.
