Ayers Rock (AYQ) not available as a redemption destination

I am planning a trip to Australia that includes 3 days in Ayers Rock (AYQ). Tried searching for redemption flights in Exec Club but ba.com doesnít even recognize Ayers Rock nor AYQ as a destination. Does anyone know why? Qantas and Qantas Link fly there.

just leave the search box as AYQ and you will get a result (there are a number of airports where the full name is not found but the search still works)

random example

Adelaide - Ayers Rock

Sat 15 Jun 2019

shows 8 economy seats available

Total Price (Including all taxes, fees, and carrier charges)

7500 Avios + £ 26.80

This should certainly be do-able, and I’m pretty sure the very same topic has been covered before here on FT. Some searching will no doubt throw up relevant past threads.

You might also wish to refer to this excellent step-by-step guide to booking QF and QF Link domestic sectors using Avios which appeared recently on HeadforPoints

EDIT post crossed with caz312’s ... but above should still be of interest if you run into problems.

Yes, you don't need the drop down to work, just proceed to the next step, this applies for any airport off the beaten track (relatively), not just Australia.

Note that not all filights to AYQ will show up in search. Flights via ASP are with Qantaslink and are bookable by phone but not online. you can check availability on Qantas site.
I was able to get phone booking fee waived.

Thanks a lot... I am checking with AA as Qantas Link doesn't appear indeed.

Iíll just point out, as a local, Sydney to Ayers Rock via Darwin is unnecessarily brutal. Go via Adelaide or Alice Springs instead

even in business, iíd take JQ (row 1) or VA over SYD-DRW-AYQ

Just found availability via Adelaide with night stopover. Availability is very spare so far out (January trip) and most flights are in Business... Trying to book before BA increases the redemption prices.

I am also looking to CNS-SYD for 10 January 2020 but only Business Class is available. Then if I look at CNS-MEL on the same date I find CNS-SYD-MEL in Economy... Why is it so complex to use exec club to look for partner flights?

QF uses married segment control on award inventory.

I was considering booking this route myself with Avios. Hadn't look though, yet. Do folks know how much this or other domestic Australia redemptions will go up under the new BA pricing scheme? I was planning to use my Avios primarily for domestic flights on a trip to Australia next year.

Does this apply to PLO as well? It's Qantaslink operated and cost a fair penny to get to from ADL!

I once observed expertflyer showing U inventory available on MEL/BNE operated by Qantaslink B717, but BA agents in Manchester couldn't find that availability for redemption.

Is ASP an exception or has the policy changed?
