LGW flight number changes?

While looking at flights for LGW-ACE, I noticed the flight numbers that've been used for many years have changed, with BA2732/2733 changing to BA2704/2707 from sometime in October. A quick google shows these are/were LGW-TFS flights.

No big deal, I just need to update my luggage label template and remember the new numbers to track flights with, but it struck me as odd, is there any logic/reason behind the change?

Took me by surprise seeing that making a booking for next spring too, I've never known it be anything else from when we first booked it on a 734 IIRC not long after they started it, one of those flights we do so often it's complete autopilot throughout the journey looking for that number.

Two possible scenarios… there’s a tidying up of flight numbers going on, possibly to reallocate some for codeshares, or the BAEF team are all new and just picked one of their numbers at random, not realising it held special significance. Either equally likely tbh.

Checked the other Canaries and it looks like a bit of housekeeping,

TFS BA2700/01 & 2702/03 (formerly 2702/03 & 2704/05)
ACE BA2704/2705 (formerly 2732/33)
LPA BA2706/2707 (formerly 2600/01)
FUE BA2710/2711 (formerly 2700/01)

They’ve been doing it with PFO as well, using 2780/1 next year which used to be LHR-FNC and/or LGW-FNC I think.

Yup, BA2780 used to be LGW - FNC then got moved to LHR during covid, and then got it's flight number changed to BA520. I've still got my boarding pass from 2020, flying LHR-FNC on BA2780.
