Well yes, but being used to accelerate familiarisation, whilst still serving a “long haul” route - not underutilising a large aircraft...

The pilots who do the MAD route will probably be doing it three days in a row like now. Unless BA want all the qualified A350 pilots to have their turn at the new wheels.

LHR-BEY is 2167mi, LHR-TLV is 2233mi.

Both routes are comfortably over 2k.

For LHR-BEY that is how BA now counts it, ME counts it differently, and this is (relatively) new. It was not always 140TP. Maybe the situation for TLV is different as it is slightly further, there was an article about this a while back but had no luck finding it.

That's very good answer. Yes, this is for crew / pilot training flight. After that, they will deployed A350 to TLV.

Nothing to do with VS. This was planned long before VS announced their service, but held back for various reasons.

I don’t think it’s that at all, or if it’s a factor it’s only a minor one. More likely just the best fit for BA for scheduling and capacity on these flights. BA has been twiddling with the TLV schedules and aircraft for years.

BA has counted it as such ever since the route was taken over from BD - can't remember what the deal was back in the BMED days (or before!). But the cities haven't spread further apart, certainly not 150mi+! ME counts it as 2161mi, GCM as 2167mi, and BA as 2168mi.

Anyway - let's stay on topic

True, but hopefully at some point for any future A350's with a F cabin.

I don’t think any airline operates a 4 class A350 (happy to be told otherwise), it’s standard configuration is 3 class and I can’t see any reason why an airline would move away from that at the moment! Certainly not BA anyway.

Malaysian do a F cabin on their A350, although it's branded a Business Suites and JAL are doing a F cabin on their A350-900 but I'm not aware of others as yet. China Eastern are doing one too.

Ah, but no Premium Economy on those - so still a 3 class configuration.
