BA32 - BA28 [HKG - LHR flights]

Just received two texts, first one BA32 is cancelled you've been moved to BA9996, followed by BA9996 is cancelled you've been moved to BA28!

Is this BAs way of shuffling passengers between flights?

Hmmm last year the aircraft changed around 380 / 777 - might be a similar situation ?

BA Hong Kong equipment changes

Looks like it could be a callsign change but no change of equipment.

Yes, we've had the same - twice. Originally booked on the BA26, specifically to be on the 380. 2 weeks ago, we got a message saying BA26 was cancelled and we had been re-booked onto BA28 - which turned out to be a re-numbered 380. Had another message today, sorry BA28 cancelled, you have been re-booked onto BA32 - again worried that we were on a 777 but seems to still be a 380 but now called BA32. So each time, it has been same aircraft and same seats but with a slightly worrying email.

BA booking page now shows BA28 as a 777 and BA32 as a 380. My BAEC bookings page shows the booking as BA26, but when I go into MMB it is BA32. The app shows all three - 26, 28 and 32!

According to EC261/2004 you are not obliged to accept the rebookings.

Same departure time and flight time, same aircraft?

Had the flight numbers changed on a LGW domestic flight recently for a flight in February.
As BA cancelled/rebooked I was able to accept (being put back on the same time/aircraft), cancel, or choose any other flight that day.
Moved to better timed flights from LCY instead for no charge..

I had exactly the same today. Again seems to have ended up as (still) A380 out and 77W back (56J), presumably still the same equipment as this was what mine was before. Also had the passage via BA9996 which must be some kind of temporary holding ID.

Good old BA IT, you can’t beat it, on the same day all my bookings have disappeared from MMB. I’ve tried clearing caches and different browser, on the phone app I have BA32, BA9996 and BA28 all on the same day!
