Passport check HKG

Currently at HKG, meetings cancelled so thought I'd come to the airport (early) and crack through some work before flying BA32 later.

Can't retrieve boarding pass without having a passport check (British passport) at a BA desk at approx 19:30.

Am I able to get around this by returning to In-Town check in at Kowloon, approaching a desk there for a boarding pass?

Thanks for any insights

Make sure you get the same day return ticket on the Airport Express Train as it is the same price as one-way. In town check-in will be able to issue you your boarding pass.

Useful to hear about this facility having just booked a return from HKG. What time does it open for BA - ie can we check bags and then spend the day in town, or is it geared more for the actual trip to the airport. Naturally I've googled, but all I can find is generic info, nothing on operating times. Any info, or links to info, would be appreciated, thanks.

It's open from 6am until midnight. I'm not sure how you are supposed to know that other than by visiting the stations as it doesn't seem to be listed anywhere.

Yes you can check bags and spend the day in town. It's also handy if you have lounge access and want to spend a few hours lounge-hopping as you can be through security before the BA desk at the airport even opens.

Is there a BA desk with a BA computer?

Or is check-in done by a generic desk that serves all airlines?

I used this with Cathay about 15 years ago but I’ve forgotten.

Hi.

There should be a dedicated ba sign over the desk but last time it was not manned but a agent came over and checked me in so there might not an agent visible at the desk but check in can be done

Brilliant, thanks. I read somewhere that you need a rail ticket to access the desk - does that invalidate the ticket for later use to the airport, or how does it work?

Very grateful for the info on FT as I cant find any official stuff anywhere else, including (unsurprisingly) the BA website.

Hi.

I used the octupus card to check in but the principle for a ticket is the same

The train fare is deducted from the octupus card as you enter the check in area but once checked in you can leave the station

When coming back to get the train you tapped the card again at the gate but nothing is deducted from the card as it was deducted earlier
