BA116 JFK-LHR - 12 April 2019 - Electrical Fault

Hi folks, just been deplaned from BA116 JFK to LHR due to an electrical fault. It's currently 80mins past departure time (20.10) and we're sat in terminal.

Going to be proactive negatively here....what is best course of action if flight is cancelled?

Family of 4 so no option is easy 😪

BA182 is showing W3/J2/F1... aside from that, the AA and BA morning departures look to be available.

Thanks Absoluy. Any advice if flight is cancelled for overnight, just sort a hotel myself or wait on BA dealing with a queue of 350 people?

That was pretty scary, stuck on an airless, mostly-dark, eerily-silent plane while emergency vehicles circled and the fire department boarded. What are the chances they try again with the same plane?

I did see a couple of people start to freak out. Still no update, vouchers or anything.

I’m in the lounge. They have no info and have made no announcements. Really not BA’s finest moment here.

Boarded again. Looks like BA may sneak just under the 3 hour mark for EU compensation, but we’ll see.

How did you folks get on? My experience of similar situations has been less than stellar, so hoping it works out for you.

Touched down at 11.50, doors open at 11.58. so more than 3hrs.

Question for you experts. We have missed our 09.45 connection to GLA and have been rebooked on the flight at 1815. How does compensation work since arrival at final destination is 8hrs delay?

You will get the standard EUR 400 per person plus duty of care expenses so if you need a meal at LHR keep your receipt for thst,

Yes, that would be over 4 hours rather than over 3, GLA time is what matters assuming one ticket. See the main thread on EC261 in the Dashboard.

I would ask to be made Standby on the earlier GLA services if you have status on BA.

JFK-GLA is a Type 3 flight. A delay exceeding 4 hours is EUR 600. OP will likely be issued meal vouchers unless he has lounge access at LHR. As he had that at JFK, likely he does at LHR.

Thanks folks. BA have already emailed offering 15,000 Avios, so that plus 2400 Euros will soften the blow.
