BA have been inquiring with several stations with regards to short haul flights utilizing the A350 and their ability to handle them. This includes Domestic stations. So expect to see more than just MAD for trials.

Apparently, unlike the 787/A380 introduction, the BA pilots have not had the opportunity for familiarization flights before hand with other airlines and so the key goal is an increased number of sectors required for the type.

if that’s the case, then EDI wouldn’t have a problem with it, since Qatar sends a A350 daily... would be cool to see the BA come to EDI for these test flights

I have a question...does Airbus have to provide exactly 30 days notice of delivery or can it be less?

I don’t know, but presuming Qatar doesn’t send the -1000 to EDI? In which case the BA version is significantly longer with different landing gear configuration/turning circle etc

For CX, it includes MAN, ZRH, MAD, AMS and FCO.

I don't think airports with A350 service is really the main factor. Virtually all BA's main Euro/Domestic routes see wide bodies from other airlines, even if it is the very similarly sized 777-300ER or others. BHD/INV are the only(?) two domestic where I don't think it would get in. GLA/EDI/ABZ/MAN/NCL all have 350 or 777 service. BA has to be able to have a gate/space at the times they want to send it as well the ground handling available at their respective terminals.

Also on routes that they can use the seats too - although this is probably less important on training runs where the rumour is to cap at A321 loads - so maybe this indicated only A321 routes will get it, not that this narrows it down much.

I would imagine if they start sending it to a number as well as MAD, they may do some of the ex-767 routes where the capacity might be warranted, to replace current A321 flights? It will certainly be interesting to see where it ends up though, whether they stick to multiple MAD runs or just have a couple destinations they send consistently. They also will have the second frame where we may see even more depending on how much crew training they need to do.

I have three returns in August/September to Madrid so hopefully by booking on a number of the different flights I should get lucky with one!

Is it sad to hope for an EDI run to keep me current on “flying every aircraft type in the BA fleet”?

I finally managed a 789 last month - if I could slot in an A350 on a training flight that would be perfect.

EDI handles a Qatar A350-900 and an Emirates 777-300 near-daily so I wouldn’t have thought the 350-1000 would be a problem. There have been occasional 747 movements too.

I'm looking forward to the arrival of this plane both because I think A350s are great but because of the new Club World Suites product.

The 777 being used due to cargo capacity is intriguing. FRA and ARN were noted as 767 routes because of the cargo uplift but they seem to be managing with a mix of A319/320/321s since the 767 retirement. Is MAD not more to do with feeder traffic to and from IB and is it a long term solution? Always great to fly on a 77W to Madrid but such a waste of a good frame with decent IFE, etc. As more A350s and 787-10s are introduced, is there a case to deploy the oldest 777s on EU routes before final retirement?

This is a long shot I know. Especially as info would likely have been posted already.

But I need to book MAD flights in September. Anyone from inside know expected flight numbers? When BA should put into booking system? Or anything really? Delivery should be in less than 30 days now? Mid July?
