I found the AA version of this seat really manoeuvrable, so it was possible to get a really comfy reclined seating position, similar to what you mention above. Hopefully this will be the same.

If you really cared about the specific seat on your flight, you could be bothered to learn the names. That said, it's 100% understandable that some people don't know and don't really care. Many don't even know or care what type of equipment they're on (as long as it's not a MAX-8!).

I care about the (J) seat in a slightly abstract way ... I know what I like, from my albeit limited experience! AA 77W, then AA 330, then BA 744 (upstairs), BA 380 upstairs ... and at the bottom anything on a BA 777.

But I still don’t care what the seats are called ... I call them Very Nice, Nice, OK and Survivable!

QR J later this year ... A359 and B788. Then I might have an opinion worth reading!

Amazing BA is coming out with seats just now that other carriers had 10+ years ago. LOL

So I can expect the lhr-dfw flight to have new seats by 2040?

IIRC Cirrus was launched by US Airways and that was 2009 (June) so not quite 10+...

I know this is already getting in too soon but I'm cringing at what BA are going to do if they swap a new A350 for an old J aircraft...will they offer refunds or complimentary change of flights?

Maybe the 50k avios compensation will make a return! Halved to 25k due to it being for J rather than F.....

Do they offer anything for aircraft changes currently?

No, I think that is the concern...I wouldn't want to shell out $$ to go on these new A350s if suddenly it's a bait and switch to something old and .....

What do other airlines do? Doesn't QR have Suite/No-Suite?

Which carrier had reverse herringbone suites with doors ten years ago? In fact, which carrier has them in 2019?

the first gen Cirrus seats compare very poorly against the later CX version. The gap widens further when we compare it with the B/E Super Diamond. As we've seen the world hasn't been standing still during the past ten years.

i don’t disagree. Simply saying that the first version came out less than 10 years ago.

Whether SD is better than Cirrus is a personal preference and I’d personally choose Cirrus over the SD any day (door or not).

One of the dates I looked at in Oct ex YYZ BA92 was $5200 for the YYZ-LHR leg while the later BA98 using the 772 was around $3600 for J and $4005 for F so I would be annoyed with an aircraft change if I spent an extra $1600 just for the YYZ-LHR leg to just try the new seat.

Why not just book a flight on an AA 772 and try the seat? Its he exact same minus the "door"

Indeed, and the AA 77W J seat is even better
