I thought 1A was some sort of mystical seat reserved for Gold upwards. Can you reserve it as an infrequent flyer?

A perfect riposte.

Thinking about it, age does not necessarily have all that much to do with it. My 26-year-old companion would have said something like "You always serve this seat? Wonderful! Please bring me another glass of champagne!"

Admittedly I, at 41, would probably have engaged him in a long and pointless discourse.

That is quite an amazing statement. May I ask why not?

Reserve it, no. Available when you're checking in? Fair game.

I worked on the premise that the OP had arranged everything, including seat allocation, for the Aged Parent.

I have no idea about the requirements for booking 1A in F, l/h ... I only know BA seems to allocate it to us automatically on CE s/h.

Can't believe the cabin crew didn't have your Dad's back here. Shameful.

I agree. If it was the toad that some of us think it was, he would have backed down.

I think it is safe to assume there are a fair number of passengers who don't read FT who could be intimidated into giving up their seat. I also think it's wise to not publish the name of said individual. I know laws are different in the UK but in the US there was a defamation law suit successfully litigated on behalf of a public official against a (relatively speaking) private individual for over $1,000,000.

In the UK it isn't libelous if you are telling the truth.

The OP has every right to not disclose the identity of the person, however it must also be accepted that by telling the story in a public forum it will legitimately arouse healthy curiosity.

If you can't prove you are telling the truth it could be a problem, though, yes? I can understand that a private person would want to avoid a potential court case when there would be no benefit.

Crew should not allow bullying like this to take place - end of.

They know DYKWIA's can pressure people who feel a bit out of place in F or J. To me the crew member should have noticed this situation and protected the elderly customer.

If I was there I would have definitely said something. I can't stand bullies.

I've been thrown out of my seat exactly twice by a celebratory - John Major and Tracey Emin - in advance, at check-in.

This tale is appalling, why didn't the celebrity try and sort it out at Check in like someone else said this is how they were moved. From the sound of his abrupt manner he has done this often before, I also would have told him no way but not as politely as that.
