The other question is whether this applies just to the MAX 8, or also the MAX 9, MAX 10 and MAX 200.

I wonder if they will be allowed to fly back with no passengers? If I was THY and some of my planes were grounded I would want at least want them at my home base where I had my own Maintenance staff to look after them. Plus probably avoid parking charges at the remote airport too.

1st aircraft due next month. Already planned in the flying program.

That breaks O’Leary’s one type concept!

Talk about arse licking from the airline that only a few hours ago said they’d continue to fly that aircraft:

We would like to apologise to customers who will be affected by temporary cancellations and delays, but the safety and security of our customers and colleagues will never be compromised, and once authorities advise to cease operations we will of course comply.

It would have been refreshing to read

We would like to apologise to customers who will be affected by temporary cancellations and delays. While we disagree with the UK CAA’s decision, our hands are tied, but rest assured we are working on solutions to minimise your inconvenience.

Looking at that situation illustrates the possibility that it might be in their interest not to land in the UK if the fuel allows, and they are short of aircraft and they are intending to keep using the aircraft in the meantime (obviously with the exception of UK-based aircraft).
I noticed the CAA said "commercial passenger flights" - I guess an empty plane being taken home probably technically isn't a commercial passenger flight.

Max 200 though, which is not covered by the SD (although it probably should, given it's a high density variant of Max 8).

The Service Directive (the official document) does not seem to make any distinction between commercial and non-commercial.

The exact wording in the SD (http://publicapps.caa.co.uk/docs/33/SD2019001.pdf) is:

...conduct any flights after 13:00 hrs on 12 March 2019, as follows:
a) Aircraft registered in the UK must not be flown anywhere.
b) Aircraft registered in a third country must not be flown in UK airspace.

Surely they don't have enough fuel to fly all the way back to IST. I guess they'll probably land in France for fuel since AFAIK France hasn't banned the MAX (yet). They don't want to risk landing somewhere where they might not be allowed to leave, even as a ferry flight back to base.

No MAX 10 or 200's have been delivered at this point of time, although a 200 is just a high density 8.
