If you’re successful, next steps:

1. Work out your Uber/Taxi timings to get you to NCL/EDI in plenty of time.
2. Cancel your GLA - LHR

[edit] I see that OP is calling KLM to be rebooked onto EDI/NCL. Good work! Hopefully he is successfully rebooked and is also able to refund the GLA-LHR.

[tl;dr of previous post: don’t do this, listen to FTers and call KLM]

GOT IT! For free! Thank you so, so much!

Called KLM Platinum line … somebody just cancelled, and me and another person were in the queue for the seat. I guess my Lifetime Platinum status helped (or helped screw the other unfortunate soul).

Now, need to talk to Expedia for a possible refund! Any advice? 24-hour rule?

I'm off to bed now but good luck OP. I'm fully expecting to wake up tomorrow to discover that:

a) you successfully made it to AMS in time; and
b) after all that, your AMS-LHR flight is cancelled

Nothing to do with status. You just got there first.

Given the price of your flight to London, it is probably refundable/flexible.

congratulations! Now set an alarm clock so you can get to EDI well in advance (:

Expedia - if you booked on the US site it should be free (although possibly not given it is so close to departure). In any case check the fare rules which should list the cancellation fee. You might also call them and ask.

No need for that - the full flex fare GLA-LHR is £400 Y, £500 J, so I'm guessing that's what you bought. If so then it's fully refundable, but likely with some Expedia fees deducted.

Out of interest why did you book it through Expedia rather than on BA.com? I am not saying BA will be helpful here, but Expedia will definitely be unhelpful.
24 hr rule does not apply if the flight is within 24 hours. So either you booked a refundable tix and you are good, or you have at least a changeable one, will change the date and make your next jaunt to London an expensive one, or otherwise you are £500 poorer but richer in experience!

Taxi to EDI £55!

Can sort out refunds knowing now what I know now!

On the phone right now - fully refundable and Expedia won't take a fee as less than 24hrs.

heeeeeeeee heeeeeeeeeeee.

All is well that will hopefully end well! Looks like a very tricky situation pretty much turned around.

It never ceases to amaze me that in some ways, FT seems to combine the qualities of a top TA and a top PA and probably in some ways exceeding the skills of most! ^

Just for reference, these ex-AMS fares usually have a EUR 300 change fee.

The more substantial issue than the change fee that affects most people in this kind of situation would be the advance booking requirement, i.e. cheap "ex-EU" are often INCEUxx, xx being the number of days in advance that it needs to be ticketed, plus the fare bucket availability.

Unless the traveller can postpone the trip by the number of days in xx onto the date when the I class is available, the fare difference can be quite large depending on what can be booked at the time.
