Avios: Pronunciation

Only ever seen this written down... what's the actual pronunciation, or is this a Scone/Scone type question?

Is it AY-VEE-OSS (as in Aviation)
or AY-VEE-OHS
or AVVY-OSS
or AVVY-OHS

or some other permutation which I've missed!?

I refuse to call them Avios, they'll always be miles in my view

However I agree with chris1922mk2 re the pronunciation.

In IPA it would be [æ.vi.ˈɒs].

Essentially the same as Castilian Adiós with a v sound replacing the d. Those of us who travel shorthaul will hear the word on every flight, since during the Buy on Board spiel "our Executive Club members can pay with / by Avios." So I'm taking that as the official version, since it is a consistent pronunciation in my experience.

Well, now that the pronounciation dilemma seems to have cleared up, it's time to define the correct plural form. If anything similar to other nouns ending with a vocal + s, adding -es seems right? Like princess - princesses, it would be Aviosses then?

BA, who invented them.

(Yes, BA did not invent "frequent flyer miles" as a medium of exchange. They did invent "Avios" as a name for their private currency.)
