Avoiding Indian airspace? Are you sure? The picture tells me otherwise.

That's what the captain said before we took off as a general comment, but in reality it seems Pakistan airspace is closed. You're right that our track did in fact cross the southern tip of India (as shown on the map).

How are the ME3 flying from DXB/AUH/DOH to PEK/ICN/HND? Usually they fly via Pakistan Kashmir to reach Chinese airspace.

Why is Thai unable to re-route its aircraft to reach Europe? Is a detour over Chinese airspace not permitted?

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showpost.php?p=30829989&postcount=44 EDIT: Note also that there is little to no flying over the Tibetan Plateau, so it's a rather bigger detour than one would initially think. |

QR812 (DOHH-HND) yesterday flew over Pakistan (I assume it was before the airspace shut). Today it is flying only slightly further south to fly around Pakistan, it isn't much of a detour. The only way would be to fly China - Myanmar - India - Indian Ocean ----> but that is a huge, huge detour; the quickest route is via Pakistan Kashmir -> Chinese Xianjiang - >Beijing -> South Korea. |
FWIW, it looks like some stranded aircraft are being allowed to get out. I see four SVs in the air now: two from LHE, one from ISB and one from KHI; the flight numbers suggest positioning. Also a FlyDubai appears to be positioning from MUX. That adds to the EK and WY aircraft stranded at KHI which I saw getting out yesterday (although they might have actually operated their scheduled flights).
