Quite a coincidence indeed.

Now, if only the generosity of my employer's travel budget could be similarly increased then the situation would be nicely matched.

What are the other reasons for the B772 non ER retirements?

I'm interested to see if they install the Thales i5000 system as per the existing 77W's, as that is now an 11 year old system (and frankly can be a bit moody). Shirley the newer system's selling benefits must include power/packaging/weight over the older systems, smaller, more powerful media servers etc. Although the YMMx RR 772's delivered in 2009 had the same Rockwell Collins units that first YMM's delivered in 2000, but that at the time that still was the most recent system. But with the newer Panasonic eX3 IFE systems being refitted in the fleet, there might be hope!

Given their age, I suspect that a significant cabin refit cannot be justified. Meaning, they would become an even more orphaned fleet if they were retained.

Any chance they’ll just ditch the 777-200 (non-ER) ahead of schedule? They swapped out my planned 787 for one on a flight in April and I am not thrilled.

These are the "A-market" 777-200s - part of a small fleet worldwide without the "ER" tag. They are only capable of relatively short sectors I believe - East Coast but not West, etc - and are thus presumably a bit of a headache for fleet planning purposes since they can't be interchanged so easily. I think they may also be heavier, and thus less efficient than the rest of the 777-200ER fleet.

No, its another new layout due for service later this year. Similar I grant you but different from the current product you allude to.

Indeed, the densified 3 class 777s at LGW have 52 seats in WTP. Could this be the layout for the first of the G-YMM 3 class fleet? There are sure to be some minor differences due to plumbing/wiring for toilets (due their different position) and access to crew bunks, for example.

They're old - delivered in 1995 and as old if not older than some of the 744's currently being retired.

They lack the range to fly further than the Middle East/East Coast USA and Canada. This restricts fleet utilization.

The cargo capacity is also reduced over the ER variants.

Have always liked the 77W?
