Hi, does anyone know if BAEC silver members get a free hold bag for basic economy fares? The website says that the free 2 checked bags for everyone travelling in your booking in economy does not apply for basic fares, but I'm not sure if this means it's only not applicable for the other people on the booking.

I am BA gold, and on each HBO fare i can check in two bags for free. Never use it, but still see them when i checkin.

The BA website says no.

However, I believe the system sees it differently. I'm always offered free bags within the app check-in irrelevant of booking type. Problem is I've never actually tested it to confirm, as I'm hand baggage only on 95 per cent of my trips.

I don't think that's correct. You will be asked if you are checking in any bags during check-in, however, it will then charge you if you select any checked luggage. Have you actually ever tried to check in any bags and the system has allowed you to do this for free?

Tried dummy booking with AY Light fare yesterday. After entering my BAEC number (Silver) I had free seat selection, but it said I have to pay for bags. And £34 for lounge access in HEL????
