I do have fond (and to mix my metaphors) almost certainly rose-tinted memories of the 146s in the late 90s. I would have been travelling Cork to Glasgow and used a number of direct and indirect options at the time, I actually can't recall who the carrier was. One of BA's franchisees maybe?
More definitely related to BA, on a recent trip to YUL we got delayed departing as some baggage had to be found and unloaded. The Captain invited those of us who were interested up to see the 787 cockpit, to while away the time we were waiting. Well, I'm an unashamed geek and didn't need asking twice. While chatting to the Captain (and nearly sitting on his lunch by accident!) I was asking about what he'd flown over his career and what he'd enjoyed most. He mentioned the 146 and described it with the following wonderful phrase (I hope my recollection does him justice)
"Also flew the 146, a very quiet aircraft which virtue they achieved by keeping all of the noise on the inside"

For me the most striking part of flying these planes is always on approach when the flaps come up (and reverse thrust?) and (particularly when landing into LCY) it sometimes feels like the plane is about to stall entirely and drop out of the sky. When I'm not paying attention it can really make me jump for a second.

I think it is a fantastic aircraft. I got to fly on it a couple of years back from Farnborough to Warton with BAe CAT. I found it a great experience.

Gotcha, I wasn't sure what it was, but from the sensation I was pretty sure that it was more than just flaps! It feels more like someone has opened an umbrella out the back of the tail sometimes

Count yourself lucky you dodged the Jota 146... It's a 1985 build and the interior smells like that was when it was last cleaned ... overpowering whiff of musty old grandpa

Would definitely have been the tail air brake. A fanatic aircraft, British engineering at its finest.

I think I managed 250+ sectors on the 146/Avro, the vast majority DUB-LCY. I loved it from its early days with Jersey European and Air UK, a link to a time when planes didn’t all look the same.
But from a passenger perspective it does not compare well with the Embraer, even the E70. The last 2 rows at the back on the left have a bit more room as 2 seaters, but it’s definitely one for the narrow of shoulder passenger.

Probably a nicer interior fit when operated by The Queen’s Flight, subsequently No. 32 (The Royal) Squadron, RAF.
Edit ... In fact I now recall travelling in one, on a duty trip with my Air Commodore boss. ISTR 1-2 with facing seats. Beige trim and leather seats.

Certainly an aircraft to avoid if you don't like the smell of oil fumes in the air con.
